Re: Reference question: Did "James the Lord's brother" look like Jesus?

If it is true that they looked a lot alike, it occurs to me that it is possible that some people mistook James for Jesus after his crucifixion. If they saw James around the disciples and around Jesus' family -- rumors could have been started. All speculative, but for those that believe Jesus was a r...

Re: The seventy weeks of Daniel 9.24-27.

Can you clarify which mystery you are talking about and what chronology you think Daniel is using please? Are you saying that the decree to rebuild Jerusalem by Cyrus (typically known to have been 539BC) was the same one as by Artaxerxes (much later) because he was the same person? Or something else...

Re: The seventy weeks of Daniel 9.24-27.

Hi Bernard! I'm writing to someone about the 70 weeks, and thought of your very interesting chart. I'm wondering if you have gotten any feedback from scholars on it? The terminology of 70 'sevens' of years seems to fit your scenario better than the traditional interpretation, to me. EDIT: I am remov...

Re: 1 Cor 15:3-11 once again

I think of Paul's 'gospel' of Jesus as the message of salvation through faith in the resurrection of Jesus, and particularly the message that this salvation was available to Gentiles. Galatians isn't about Paul defending the resurrection of Jesus. It appears mainly to be Paul's defense against the c...

Re: John's" Jesus' (age) is Long, His Verse is Strong's, and he's down to get the religious friction on. Hell Yah(weh)!

Here are a few thoughts I have that may or may not be relevant about GJohn and Jesus' age: 1. His ministry in GJohn doesn't seem to span very many years. If he was almost 50, the ministry would have begun when he was in his mid 40s. 2. His brothers travelled with him. Would that be more or less like...

Re: Presumptions of reader knowledge in Mark.

You are suggesting that Mark referred to something that the readers already knew (John was arrested) but it was really a slight of hand because he later explained that the arrest wasn't in hell at all, but was by Herod -- something the readers knew nothing about? Why be so evasive? Who would be fool...

Re: Presumptions of reader knowledge in Mark.

My point, basically, is that Ben's theorem is built on the false/unproved premise that the readers HAVE to know necessarily the why, the how and the when of any episode. There is nothing in his theory that requires his readers know the why, how and when. Where in the world are you getting that? How...

Re: Presumptions of reader knowledge in Mark.

Very interesting OP Ben! You have put down a number of reasonable supports for my gut instinct that gMark wasn't conceived whole cloth by a literary master who was historicizing Jesus and his sayings and doings for the very first time. It is something other than that, at the least. for who interest...
