Re: History trumps Theology

That history trumps theology is surely a fundamental approach to intellectual deliberations. What does the slogan mean? It means what it says. History and theology are not equal methods for the task of understanding the past. Can you provide an example of a time when someone on the forum employed a...

Re: Can we have an AI Translator Thread?

I can recommend ChatGPT, and I haven't found anything comparable yet.

The only improvement I've found is "more ChatGPT" (e.g. breaking up the input at different parts of the Greek, starting a new conversation, etc.).

Re: Ian Mills's "external evidence" that Luke preceded Marcion

When a data point is an outlier, its just that, an outlier and highly suspect. It is not actually a given that so-called "outlier" data is to be discarded or is "highly suspect." This is a common (and vulgar) misconception. Its popularity in the kind of folklore of how to handle...

But, no, I don't buy it.

And if I did, I wouldn't see much point in pure speculation either.

Re: History trumps Theology

Why do you even bother to post if you cannot hope to convince anyone because you have no kind of basis for the theory whatsoever?

Re: History trumps Theology

Ah, but slogans have their own power to concentrate the minds of the consumer. History trumps Theology....might even raise a debate that the issue needs attending. Slogans are a substitute where evidence in favor of a theory doesn't exist. There is no evidence for any gospel Jesus theory or interpr...

Re: Any pre-325 CE writings where Jesus' historicity was doubted?

No history offered here with reference to the gospel Jesus story. You have not offered history, not even by your own definition, as in this thread you have revealed that you have no evidence and you have also previously said that history is about evidence. Therefore, you are dealing in something ot...

Re: History trumps Theology

There is no evidence for any gospel Jesus theory or interpretation. No evidence... Zero. At this point, you would logically just become skeptical of the historicity of Jesus. Instead, you have picked up the arguments of these skeptics parasitically to suggest that a completely unevidenced theory ca...
