Re: The Short Recension of Three Letters of Ignatius
Do you realise that that link is to an online version of Cureton's ' The Antient (sic) Syriac Version of the Epistles of Saint Ignatius ' published in MDCCXLV [1745(?)]. Yes - I do (1845). The Cureton Gospels I refer to are much more modern: 1864. No (as far as I can tell).* They are free of them (...

Re: The Short Recension of Three Letters of Ignatius
Do you have a feel for if the shorter Syriac leters of Ignatius refer to the Pauline Epistles in a way that is above and beyond what could be a reference to Paul-in-Acts? Have a read: https://www.google.com.au/books/edition/The_Antient_Syriac_Version_of_the_Epistl/3UEYAAAAYAAJ?hl=en Thank-you, but ...

Re: Letters as a unique Christian genre
Pauls "7 authentic" are (to my reading) real letters. I disagree and so does the whole Tubingen school: that's why we threw them out of the Ebionaen Canon . He introduces himself, says his sources, ends with greetings, writes passionate arguments. Most of rest of NT is either anonymous or...

Re: Do any Church Fathers state or imply that Jesus spoke Aramaic during his ministry (ie in gospel)?
Not necessarily so. 1) Reading and writing are different skills. I can read Greek, I can't compose text in it. 2) If you define literacy as reading-and-writing, if you assume (generously) a literacy rate of 10% among adult males in C1/C2 Palestine, in a largely bilingual society there will not nece...

Re: The Short Recension of Three Letters of Ignatius
To my untrained eye, the Syriac versions seem to be summaries of sections of the shorter Greek recension. I am not afraid of being shown the error of my ways, though. Do you have a feel for if the shorter Syriac leters of Ignatius refer to the Pauline Epistles in a way that is above and beyond what...

Re: Do any Church Fathers state or imply that Jesus spoke Aramaic during his ministry (ie in gospel)?
I don't know if it answers your question but there are lots of reasons to think the gospels were originally written in Aramaic.
Some of the key ones of the KJV Howlers are of Jesus speaking in Matthew, so I would take that to mean Jesus spoke Aramaic in the Gospels.

Re: The Short Recension of Three Letters of Ignatius
The Short Recension of Three Letters - discovered and championed by Cureton - the Epistles to Polycarp, to the Ephesians and to the Romans - were almost certainly the first, original letters of Ignatius. They do not include references to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection , the Eucharist , or to C...

Re: The Travels of Peter and the Ascents of James
Unloading Paul gives us a lot of room to see Christianity in a new light, without the Crowleyism of the Faulines. And I don't find the Paul-addled historians of much use. I'm more interested in looking into the Clementine Recognitions as apocrypha to see if they shed light on this, and examine &quo...

Re: Early Christian Ebionaen Canon
The importance here is that therefore James belongs in the Early Christian Ebionaen Canon. The point being made is about creating a reading list for a modern canon with supposedly ancient origins. I'm not sure of what supposedly ancient origins material you are referring to; in this thread we are d...
