Re: Those stupid disciples!

You are overreaching when you claim to know who the text was written for. The consensus opinion is Christian texts shot for the middle, not the top or bottom. I would ask you to substantiate your claim. If it is a consensus it should be easy. Fact is, all of Christianity was started in Hellenism in...

Re: Those stupid disciples!

Gospel language after all is full of double meaning words, with a surface level and either an ironic or deep second meaning. While true in some aspects, your trying to open the door here, for your imaginative claims you cannot in any way substantiate. You are turning the volume up from 1 to 11 on t...

Re: Those stupid disciples!

Zabdi is just an alternate form of Zebediah/Zabadiah, which is the form obviously intended in the gospel of Mark: I would say Mark's source. Mark had no idea what the name meant. This is clear from 3:17. I worded it the way I did ("in the gospel of Mark") precisely in order not to have to address t...

Re: Those stupid disciples!

Zebedee is not an actual name anyone ever had. זַבְדִּי • (zab'di) m Zabdi, the name of four Israelites in the Hebrew Bible. A son of Zerah and grandson of Judah; grandfather of Achan. A one of the sons of Shimhi, a Benjaminite. An officer of David, in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the...

Re: Those stupid disciples!

I disagree. Zebedee is not an actual name anyone ever had. It is a stand-in for something long lost, something about a gift from Yahweh. There is an association with Yahweh there. The fishing scene is completely artificial. We need to consider the whole Ichthys concept and Jesus Christ as God's son ...

his name Zebedee, which means "thunder. ?!!! Mark equates it with in the naming of the apostles with the Aramaic (?) "Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder". So I did as well. Probably a reach Nobody is sure what Zebedee means. Some of the better WAGS from Wikipedia The name given in the Gospels, Gre...

Re: Those stupid disciples!

A gnostic reading would no doubt lead one to point out that the father of James and John is merely symbolic, as is his name Zebedee, which means "thunder." Throughout the gospels father is synonymous with a God. In John chapter 8, Jesus repeatedly refers to his Jewish ecclesiastical questioners as h...

Re: Why Moses and Elijah Appear With Jesus on the Mountain

That's sort of interesting. Just as all the Greek and sometimes Latin numerology you find with Christianity. But almost certainly secondary if not tertiary. The more straight forward explanation seems to fit the passage(s) better. Moses represents the Law (Torah) Elijah represents the Prophets (Nevi...
