Re: Essenes, Pharisees, Sadducees, 4th Ph, Therapeutae

The revolt general John from Essa (Gerasa) is similarly identified as another general from east of the Jordan, in Peraea. May not be an "Essene" group member, as such might have been an unlikely pick for a general.... Actually, I think being an Essene qualified him as an excellent choice. As an Ess...

Sorry about that DCH.

I did not read your PDF before posting.
Clearly, it must be chalked full of tidbit morsels that I need to sample before posting again.

Sincerely,

Re: Essenes, Pharisees, Sadducees, 4th Ph, Therapeutae

Eisenman claims that Hippolytus wrote that the Essenes consisted of four different groups within the Essene movement. That when Josephus referred to the Fourth School of Jewish Philosophy he was actually referring to the 4th branch of the Essenes. I haven't found a link to verify Esienman's source f...

"...John, the Essene, to the toparchy of Thamma; Lydda was also added to his portion, and Joppa and Emmaus." War (II, 567)

John the Essene was a military commander during the first Jewish revolt.

Re: Larry Hurtado vs Neil Godfrey

From Neil's blog: " We [Vridar] are atheists but neither of us has any hostility to religion per se (we respect the beliefs and journeys of others) and I don’t see what difference it makes to any atheist whether Jesus existed or not." Your Honor (Peter), may I cross examine the witness under t...

Re: Is the centurion at the cross the 'first Christian'?

Actually, the first Christian would be the first person who saw/believed Christ had risen from the dead.

According to Mark 16:5-6 that would be the young man dressed in a white robe, (name unknown) sitting in the empty tomb.

Sincerely,

Re: When People Imagine Jesus Had Existence Do They Really Think He Would Have Relevance Today?

Yes, all good points regarding the changing definition of good and evil over time by liberals. However, Jesus made it clear that the 10 commandments would be in effect until heaven and earth passed away. Matt: 5:18 Western civilization laws are more or less based on the 10 commandments and when foll...

However you want to characterize it, he wasn't advocating sexual assault. Oh yes he was. Slick Willie was leading by example of what you could get away with if the liberal media/Hollywood was on your side. All that Trump did was acknowledge the hypocrisy of the alt-left, not that he actually did it...

Re: When People Imagine Jesus Had Existence Do They Really Think He Would Have Relevance Today?

Bill Clinton was accused of perjury and receiving oral sex in the Oval Office. No, Slick Willie was impeached for lying under oath about telling others to lie under oath so he could beat a sexual harassment case. Trump talked about wanting to be a star so he could get away with it, Slick Wille actu...

Re: When People Imagine Jesus Had Existence Do They Really Think He Would Have Relevance Today?

But how much of this "belief" on your part John T that Jesus has something to do with the Hasmoneans reducible to a pre-existent interest on your part in Jewish royalty? I'd say a lot of it. Like a girlfriend I had who had a portrait of "black Jesus" on her wall ... and guess what? She was black. A...
