Re: Whatever happened to Earl Doherty?

Hi Neil, Thanks for the info on Earl's book. Damn, that's the book I wanted to write before the Holy War of Transgendered-Lesbian, Anti-Feminist Feminists against Bill Cosby started. That takes up practically all of my time now. I will be writing a book comparing Jesus Christ and Bill Cosby as soon ...

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch

Charming. Thanks. I really liked the point that just because Marcion was first doesn't mean he knew the real Jesus.

Re: Koran may be older than Mohammed

I've been thinking about the math involved. The mean between 568 and 645 or (645 minus 568 divided by 2 = 77/2 = 38.5 years. So the mean is 38.5 years above 568 and 38.5 years below 645 or the year 606.5. A 95% confidence level indicates 2 standard deviations. A 65% confidence level would be 1 stand...

Re: Strongest, most direct evidence to doubt the Resurrectio

And while we are on the subject, what is the best evidence that Luke Skywalker is Darth Vader's son? Or closer to the point, how do we know that Spock's body and soul was resurrected on the Genesis planet? How we do know that the Klingons didn't substitute a rogue hologram of Spock? Hi Secret Alias,

Interesting, so God Jesus is a mistranslation of a nomina sacra?

Warmly,

Re: Koran may be older than Mohammed

Hi All, From the BBC article in the OP: "These tests provide a range of dates, showing that, with a probability of more than 95%, the parchment was from between 568 and 645." The key date here is not 645, but the mean between 568 and 645, which equals 606.5. There is a 50% chance of the pa...

Re: Did Jesus say people should not divorce?

Hi Michael BG, I am wondering what the word "adultery" meant. Did it mean having sex or did it mean being unfaithful? Jeremiah 3:8 HEB: אֹדוֹת֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִֽאֲפָה֙ מְשֻׁבָ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל NAS: that for all the adulteries of faithless KJV: Israel committed adultery I had put her away, INT: the ...

Re: New book on crucifixion in the ancient world

Hi Andrew, I think this also passage also shows a mistake in transmission and/or translation. The two images put forward are of a tree bending over and pouring out blood when it stands upright again and Moses doing the same thing, standing upright, he stretches out his arms and the Jews shed blood, b...

Re: New book on crucifixion in the ancient world

Hi Ben, I think there is some suspicious translations in these examples. Take, for example Barnabas 9.7 'For the scripture saith; And Abraham circumcised of his household eighteen males and three hundred. What then was the knowledge given unto him? Understand ye that He saith the eighteen first, and...

Re: New book on crucifixion in the ancient world

Hi DCHindley, The numbers hypothesis seems quite possible. I would tend to agree with the 90% from Old Testament interpretation and probably 10% from random historical events mixed together. Note the Puteoli Graffito which is put forward by madmen, excuse me, Biblical Scholars, as the best evidence ...
