fwiw, Smith does not say he was looking for this particular "Letter" and claimed he was surprised to find it.
He claimed to go to catalog books, not manuscripts.

I am not persuaded that nobody has been surprised by this book. Rather, the fact that the current library completely restricts, bans, access to it speaks volumes in the other direction.
