Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

I am suggesting to take Morton Smith at his word that he knew there were often handwritten notes in the blank pages of notes. He did find other manuscripts as well as the Letter to Theodore.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

Do you accept that Morton Smith was looking for texts of Isidore of Pelusium in 1952 or was this also part of a wider plot?

Re: Litwa on Marcion as ancient Mythicist

This is why I don't like Richard Carrier: Litwa literally doesn’t know anything he is talking about. "Literally." How can an expert "literally" not know anything about what he is talking about. The word "literally" literally makes the sentence incomprehensible. Typical ...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

I actually tried to get David Trobisch when he was at the Hobby Lobby Bible Museum (not sure if he is still there) to buy the manuscript. He was interested but nothing came of it.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

Here is what I said: The idea that we should listen only to WASP scholars who speculate that Morton Smith planted the document and ignore the guy who ran the Mar Saba monastery when Morton Smith discovered the document when he assumed the document was always a part of the monastic library is the hei...

Re: Litwa on Marcion as ancient Mythicist

I've said this many times before. The name "mythicism" has a negative connotation. It would be like if you set up a study of homosexuality called "faggot studies" and when people questioned you you'd be like "oh no, we don't hate homosexuals." "Then why are you cal...

Re: Litwa on Marcion as ancient Mythicist

All roads lead to the same place. And Litwa is right. The Jews had an ancient god Man. Moses was called "Moses the Man of God" for this reason by the Samaritans. Jesus was Man. Modern mythicism is anti-Christian, anti-religion. A more sophisticated Protocols of Zion which includes Christia...

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

Quesnell saw the scribbles on pg 11 that Tselikas saw: On page 11, there was about twenty squiggles across the top & down the right margin. They turn out to be Greek letters. The last five are clearly identifiable. They are the 18th c. way of writing [Greek letter pi] namely [ligature] repeated ...

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

I'm a bit unclear about one thing: Did Tselikas examine the actual manuscript, or did he work from photos? Scott Brown sent him a CD with the highest resolution Hedrick images (which are from the many photos commissioned by Quesnell). Tselikas wrote his study at the Patriarchate though. He had the ...
