Re: Pagan attempts meant to prove that Jesus was never risen

I do not think there is any evidence that John was crucified, Someone has seen that "evidence" in the Jesus's cry on the cross and relative misurderstanding of it by the people around, meant to make it clear that the crucified wasn't invoking the spirit of Elijah abandoning him as John the Baptist....

Re: Why John the Baptist had to become the Angel of YHWH of Exodus 23:20

The idea of grace is surely intrinsic to the baptism of John in Mark 1:8: I baptize you with water , but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” I am going to suspect that John the Baptist was not only an anti-Gnostic figure (note the Marcion's difficulty to accept fully him in the his Gospel), b...

Re: Pilate as a later addition in Mark

If we start with the view that the Gospel of Mark is a narrativization of Paul's theology, and if we accept that Paul was responsible for the passages bringing Jews and Gentiles together into the one body in Christ, both equally guilty and equally saved, then is there not a ready explanation for Pi...

Re: About another Gospel incipit without John the Baptist

Putting aside Mcn, can you explain why the absence of John in the Gospel of 12 apostles would be not evidence of the antiquity of this gospel?

Re: About another Gospel incipit without John the Baptist

Is it not perhaps equally plausible to argue the reverse: that the texts with stronger anti-Jewish narratives are later, coinciding with the growth of anti-semitism among many Christian cults from the late second century on? I wrote the my reasons to think otherwise: For what I know until now, the ...

Re: About another Gospel incipit without John the Baptist

You misunderstand the argument, then. Your argument is: 1) in Mcn John is introduced bluntly with a description of him 2) in Mark John is introduced in the incipit. 3) therefore: Mcn derives from Mark. My point is that, if you accept the validity of that your argument (as I do), then accordingly yo...

Re: Why John the Baptist had to become the Angel of YHWH of Exodus 23:20

Note that, differently from the past, now I am able, by this new evidence, to confute the skepticism of DCH about John as an "angel" (as opposed to a mere human "messenger"): (No need, by you MrMacSon, of quoting all from the link given above) The marcionite Jesus says that John is more than a proph...

Re: Why John the Baptist had to become the Angel of YHWH of Exodus 23:20

Note also the deliberate contrast between what the Angel of YHWH will do (death and destruction on the enemies of Israel in Canaan) and what John will do (giving grace by the his baptism). Note that John 1:17 is using the same passage Exodus 23:20 to reiterate the antithesis between justice and gra...

Why John the Baptist had to become the Angel of YHWH of Exodus 23:20

“See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. (Exodus 23:20) In another thread some evidence is given to raise the question: was the figure of the precursor/messenger of Jesus required simply by the prophecy in Exodus 23:20 or for...
