Re: When/what is the End of Days?
To be honest, I don't like apocalyptic writings or thinking (even in the Dead Sea Scrolls, which I otherwise enjoy). But Rakovsky's got me thinking about the nature of the "End of Days" (acharit ha-yamim). And when I think of the End of Days I think of things like Is. 2:2-4: In the last d...

Re: Strongest, most direct evidence to doubt the Resurrectio
There's no end to the how-it-could-have-been "explanations" one can posit, and in nearly two decades of discussing the Bible on the Internet, I have seen many. To argue that Matthew's Jesus, and an angel, said on resurrection morning to go to Galilee, and that there is where the apostles ...

Re: Strongest, most direct evidence to doubt the Resurrectio
The second option makes more sense in terms of harmonization. If a friend sends another friend to ask you and your other friends to meet him in another city, but then stops by your house that day and again eight days later before your big meeting, this does not make you wrong if you say: "My f...

Re: Did Abraham really sacrifice Isaac?
It is not clear how Abraham can be regarded as the father of Israel in a version of the story in which Isaac ends up dead on Mount Moriah. The same scholar quoted in the linked article, Dr. Tzemah Yoreh, answers that question in footnote 33 of this article: http://thetorah.com/the-sacrifice-of-isaa...

Powell's Web sites are http://www.historical-jesus.com and http://synoptic-problem.com. The former discusses the Ur-John theory.Adam wrote:How do I learn more about Evan Powell's Ur-John theory? Which part does he say was the original Aramaic portion? He should be saying it's the Discourses.

Re: Strongest, most direct evidence to doubt the Resurrectio
Matthew records about Jesus' fourth collective appearance to the apostles, on the mount in Galilee, that "when they saw him, they worshiped him, but they doubted."(Matt 28:17, "προσεκύνησαν, οἱ δὲ ἐδίστασαν.") This would have been after Jesus convinced them in Jerusalem that he ...

Re: 2nd Century Patristic Evidence - GMatthew
Not to mention that John 21 includes much that seems like the LE itself. I agree. This was discussed on the blog of Paul Davidson, a/k/a Tenorikuma: https://isthatinthebible.wordpress.com/2015/08/17/is-john-out-of-order-the-strange-geography-and-chronology-of-the-fourth-gospel/comment-page-1/#comme...
