Re: Messiah ben Joseph & Galilee; Messiah ben David & Judea.

Odd that, years after these gospel texts were penned, there should be a Jewish tradition which has the Messiah ben Joseph/Ephraim meeting with Israelites in Galilee and then marching to Jerusalem, where, according to a few texts, he is slain. . . . . Or could there have been an earlier Jewish tradi...

Re: The power of failed prophecy.

I think it is Christian at least in its present form. Joshua/Jesus with hands stretched on fruitful tree. If I understand well, do you think that the "Christianism" in the text is to be founded in the fact that "Joshua/Jesus with hands stretched on fruitful tree" ? Have you considered that the Josh...

Re: Sophia is Justified by her children

Could Matthews translation perhaps come from an orthodox perspective then? Might Luke's be the original saying of jesus and inn Matthew later scribes changed it to a more orthodox interpretation of Sophia? I tend to agree that Luke has probably the more original saying and that Matthew has modified...

Re: The power of failed prophecy.

Thanks for the info. What do you think about the following aocaltyptic prophecy: And one shall come again from heaven, a man Preeminent, whose hands on fruitful tree By far the noblest of the Hebrews stretched, Who at one time did make the sun stand still When he spoke with fair word and holy lips,...

Re: Sophia is Justified by her children

Luke 7:35 καὶ ἐδικαιώθη ἡ σοφία ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν τέκνων αὐτῆς. but wisdom is vindicated by all her children.
parallel Matthew 11:19 ...καὶ ἐδικαιώθη ἡ σοφία ἀπὸ τῶν ἔργων αὐτῆς. ...but wisdom is vindicated by her actions.

Re: The power of failed prophecy.

Some of the Millerites eventually claimed that something did happen in 1844, but it was in heaven, not on earth. I am curious about this particular feature. What happened precisely in heaven, according to Millerites? The cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary. https://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/...

Re: Further reason to date Mark after 90 CE (and probably somewhat later)

The names of Mandaean copyists are preserved in colophons The earliest named Copyist is apparently Slama daughter of Qidra at the end of the 2nd century CE.
Mandaeans
This tends to support a 2nd century CE origin for the Mandaeans in anything like their present form.

Re: 1 Cor 2:6-8 talks about a crucifixion happened "before time began"

The crucifixion of Christ by the rulers of this age can only happen "before time began " if the rulers of this age have exercised authority since before time began. This is improbable.

Re: An order of lifelong Nazirites?

There are rabbinic references to the possibility of a life long Nazirite vow. http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/artic ... 5-nazarite
This appears to be regarded as a personal choice rather than membership of a group of lifelong Nazirites and may not be relevant.

Re: Arguments concerning the Testimonium Taciteum.

Just putting this out there, having given it no more than a few moments of thought thus far. What if there is an interpolation (marked in red), but it is not the entire Testimoneum Taciteum? Tacitus, Annals 15.44 (translation modified slightly from that of Church and Brodribb): Et haec quidem human...
