2 Cor 12:13-18 / Gentile mission vs raising money

Re: Gentile mission vs raising money (perhaps for "the poor" in Jerusalem) This is what Paul said, according to 2 Cor 12:13-18 13In what way were you inferior to the other churches, except that I was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong! 14See, I am ready to come to you a third time, and I wi...

Re: Gal 2:6, King James Bible, But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me : (ἐμοὶ γὰρ οἱ δοκοῦντες οὐδὲν προσανέθεντο) I'm wondering if that last part m...

Re: GJohn 19:25, given that it is improbable that Mary had a sister named Mary, the preferred translation is like this: "Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene." (Borean Study Bible) A. ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ B. ἡ ἀδελφὴ τῆς μητρὸς α...

Re: Dreams Come True - Why Scholars are a Miserable Lot Who Often Only Seek to Make the World as Bleak as Themselves

...I see plenty of examples - hundreds - of people who 'dream things' and then 'make them come true.' ...there are a lot of scholars who 'dreamed' about discovering something and then set about to 'search' for said thing and - miraculously - discovered what they were looking for. An example from a ...

Re: Galatians 1:21-24 : churches of Judea

21 Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia, 22 and I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea that are in Christ; 23 they only heard it said, “The one who formerly was persecuting us is now proclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they glorified God because of me...

Two Jameses implies two Marys Mark 15:40 And there were also women looking on from afar off, among whom also were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses , and Salome, Mark 16:1 And the Sabbath having passed, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James , and Salome bough...

Re: GMark's "James the Less" and Matthean Posteriority

IIUC, you're saying the men from James who spied out Paul's Christians freedom happened in Jerusalem? If so can you point me to sources that propose this. If so, this explains the complaint that Paul took Gentiles into the Temple, even though those events have been separated in Acts Re: "can you po...

to Gryan, "And there were also women looking on from afar off, among whom also were Mary Magdalene, and "And there were also women looking on from afar off, among whom also were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome," If that Mary, mother of James the Less a...

Re: GMark's "James the Less" and Matthean Posteriority

Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses. Mary the mother of Joses. Mary the mother of James. ...if our author intended lack of association to be a clue to there being two different men under consideration, then there is no escaping that Joses (the son of the second Mary) lacks association with ...

Re: GMark's "James the Less" and Matthean Posteriority

I think you have assumed Matthean Posteriority ( Mark=>Luke=>Matthew ) and given a coherent account of what the evangelists may have been doing on that theory. But do you think you can show that the data actually demonstrate your theory? Can you show that Matthew must have known Luke to redact Mark...
