Re: Possible textual evidence that Mark came after Matthew?
If Mark were retouched that much, im wondering why Joseph is completely absent from the story. Yeah, I think that's the difficulty, is trying to understand or explain the entire editorial framework. Why would an editor do X but not Y? And this issue has caused many people to assume that because a s...

Re: Possible textual evidence that Mark came after Matthew?
I have no doubt that Mark was revised in the presence of Matthew, so yes, parts of Mark were written after Matthew and conformed to Matthew. The real problem here is that people keep thinking of these as actually independent works that are purely preserved in their original form. NOTHING in the New ...

Re: Reconstructing the original story of Paul
There is one aporia in the proposal, above. That is, it looks like here Paul is talking about one trip to Jerusalem---but It says he met only Peter and James. Then he says Peter James and John gave him the right hand of fellowship. But that aporia is in the source text--it is even in the Canonical ...

Re: Reconstructing the original story of Paul
Compare the two accounts of trials. First Paul's trial: Acts 23: 1 While Paul was looking intently at the council he said, “Brothers, up to this day I have lived my life with a clear conscience before God.” 2 Then the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near him to strike him on the mouth. 3 ...

Re: Reconstructing the original story of Paul
Its almost uncanny that your list above fits into the gaps in the "we" narrative so well. For your convenience, I brought all the "we" stuff together, and slotted in your plot points. Yes, exactly. And the meeting with James is a perfect example. The part in yellow is first pers...

Re: Reconstructing the original story of Paul
From an old post. Paul? As much a literary creation as is the gospel figure of Jesus. Paul as Jesus Reboot or Jesus as Paul Reboot? Although Richard Pervo has not gone that far (Thomas Brodie has opted for a literary Paul...) Pervo's chart, below, certainly raises many question..... The Mystery of ...

Re: Reconstructing the original story of Paul
Randy, I will not comment on that specific unfortunate translation but RG is always telling us "it's all about Paul guys" I don't buy it. He appears out of nowhere and suddenly he's everywhere, but earlier he's absent and no-one's ever heard of him. I think he's not there at the beginning...

Re: Every time Paul mentions Mark, he also mentions Luke
Every time Paul mentions Luke, he also mentions Mark (and vice versa): see 2 Timothy 4 :11, Colossians 4 :10-14 and Philemon verse 24. Regardless of whether these were part of "authentic" writings or not, I do think that this is also why the first two Gospels were attributed to Mark and L...

Re: The first gospel was written AFTER that the Christians were the victims of a "groundless hearsay"
I think its difficult to read too much into this, since these aren't the words of a real person, but a fictional character invented by Justin.

Reconstructing the original story of Paul
I'm convinced that the way that NT literature developed was from a Pauline letter collection to an introductory narrative about Paul's ministry that essentially narrated the Pauline letter collection, to an introductory "Gospel" that developed a story about Jesus based on the story of Paul...
