Re: It's all yours (Was about a non-Nazareth indicator)

(In fact 2:1 tells us that Jesus had his home there.) More likely "the house of Simon and Andrew, where he was before, and where he used to be when in Capernaum." - John Gill Lots of pundits have to fabricate stuff to deal with the fact the text specifically says Jesus was at home in Cape...

4 4:16 And these in like manner are they that are sown upon the rocky [places], who, when they have heard the word, straightway receive it with joy; 17 and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway they st...

Re: Benny, Benny, Benny. Benny and the Jews

JW : ...."Mark" (author) has a primary thematic distinction that it's not just important if you promote Jesus but how you promote Jesus. Same as the only significant extant Christian author before him, Paul. At the risk of sounding like Obi won Kanobi, you will agree that the quote above ...

Re: Erhmans claim of hallucination

I think hallucination doesn't really explain how the body left the tomb. There probably was no tomb. The empty tomb story appears to have been invented by Mark. A tomb burial is historically implausible in the first place, Mark is the only source for it (Paul doesn't know about it and the other Gos...

Re: Historicity of Mk 8:31-33

According to Jonas D. Christal “there are three passion predictions (8:31; 9:30-31; 10:32-34) followed by the disciples’ inability to understand their meaning (respectively 8:32; 9:32-33; 10:35-37), and Jesus’ further clarifications about the meaning of his passion and what it means to follow him (...

Re: Sinaiticus homoeoteleuton from source ms Claromontanus (

I'm sorry I confused the meanings of the two verbs. Sinaiticus has καυχήσομαι to glory with the Alexandrian tradition while Claromontanus has καυθήσομαι to be burned with the Western and Byzantine tradition. (To be accurate Byzantine has καυθησωμαι with the same meaning) Thanks for querying this. A...

Re: Sinaiticus homoeoteleuton from source ms Claromontanus (

In the passage at the beginning of 1 Corinthians 13 we can see for example that in verse 3 Sinaiticus reads that I may be be burned while Claromontanus reads that I may glory . Andrew Criddle Hi Andrew, Are you saying that the Claromontanus in 1 Cor 13:3 uses a verb different than “kauchomai” from ...

Re: Mark 16:9-20 as Forgery or Fabrication by Richard Carrie

JW : Regarding the External evidence for the likely original ending of GMark Apologists posture that the evidence for 16:8 as original is mainly confined to Sinaiticus and Vaticanus. If we look though at the early high quality External evidence we see that the majority of it favors 16:8 as original...

Re: Carrier on the proposed Gospel sources such as Q, L, M,

I do not have any example (at least none relevant to this discussion). The overall observation does not depend on Q either predating or postdating Mark. It deals merely with how Luke and/or Matthew treated Mark and the Q material. (My mind is still very much not made up about the relative order of ...
