Re: Did god really condemn mankind? Is god a just god?

Did god really condemn mankind? Is god a just god? God’s condemnation is quite severe. Hell and death, if you are a literalist believer. Meanwhile, scriptures say that the penalty for sin is closer to what we generally view as justice. That justice being an eye for an eye. This means that the penal...

Re: Was the Original Point of the Christian Story/Myth to Punish or Justify the Punishment of the Jews?

There has of course been a complete revisionist interpretation of Christianity that 'Christ crucified' doesn't justify the punishment and chastisement of the Jews. But was this dimension original and essential to the Christian gospel? If we discount 1 Thess. 2:14-16 as an interpolation and accept a...

Re: Was the Original Point of the Christian Story/Myth to Punish or Justify the Punishment of the Jews?

I see these guys (and Jesus) as being the type of Fourth Philosophers Josephus describes in War 2.13.4: These were such men as deceived and deluded the people under pretense of divine inspiration, but were for procuring innovations and changes of the government; a nd these prevailed with the multit...

Re: Grateful Dead

You know, I never got into JGB (or New Riders or Old and in the Way). And I know people who like JGB and don't like the Dead. To each their own, I guess. But it was interesting to see those videos nevertheless. And it amazes me how much Jerry played in and outside of the Dead. And who knows, maybe ...

Judith betrayes Holofernes by a love story.

Judas betrayes Jesus by a kiss.

Olophernes is not-Jew.

Jesus is betrayed by a "Judean".
I can dig it.

Re: Grateful Dead

Can feel its almost autumn. Shady Grove sounds like it'll be good soundtrack for the longer nights. Had a few friends pass the past few years. There are certain songs i heard for the first time after they died that would sound like they were meant for them. One of them is a garcia/grisman tune that ...

Re: The celestial cross in the ancient world

That said, my impression of a lot of so called scholars here and elsewhere, is they have a particular axe to grind, and seek for evidence to prove their existing beliefs. https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-beo3nNGvyK4/VKw2V9GYrVI/AAAAAAAAQl8/E_9LSMsmnp4/w1200-h630-p-k-no-nu/meter.jpg I dont think i said th...

Re: The celestial cross in the ancient world

I view the oracles of pagan religions the way i view the oracles of the jews, as pointing to the fulfillment of the prophets, jesus christ. Because that's easier than saying that Christianity is just a synthesis of Jewish and pagan ideas? I began my christian walk as a mythicist. I was ok with that...
