Re: Further evidence that Ignatius faced old deniers of the historicity of Jesus

(Reinach was not a professor. He was a curator at museums)

Also good luck with that withdrawal. No one is convinced here G.

Re: Any pre-325 CE writings where Jesus' historicity was doubted?

The 2 Peter 1 bit is with regard to specific miracles, like the transfiguration. Nothing in the text indications this is about the whole of Jesus' historicity. Similarly, the Trypho bit is about whether or not Jesus is the messiah, i.e., Jesus cannot be the Christ (thus, Christians have invented a ...

Re: Any pre-325 CE writings where Jesus' historicity was doubted?

Recognitiones 8.62 is not denying the historicity of Jesus. Neither is Trypho being noncommittal. Carrier just hasn't bothered reading the rest of the Dialogue evidently. Recognitions 8.62 in full reads: "And, therefore, since among these philosophers are things uncertain, we must come to the t...

Re: Further evidence that Ignatius faced old deniers of the historicity of Jesus

Anyone who thinks that it is impossible for someone to sound like another person, has simply no idea what diversity exists. Also, even if my theory is right, nothing indicates Ignatius is dissing the OT. And I legitimately could not care less what Reinach says, because what you are arguing is so bas...

Re: Further evidence that Ignatius faced old deniers of the historicity of Jesus

Anything can be about the historicity of Jesus as long as you (A) ignore the interpolations, and (B) insert "mention of Jesus" in brackets, and just presume all your assumptions are correct.

Re: Any pre-325 CE writings where Jesus' historicity was doubted?

I thought I'd start a new thread here rather than interrupt the one here: https://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11683 Why is this important (replying to Joseph D L)? Because I am tired to hear the apologetical motive that none doubted about the historicity of Jesus in the Antiquit...

Re: Any pre-325 CE writings where Jesus' historicity was doubted?

A couple statements come to mind: 2 Peter 1: 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. Also, from Justin Martyr, DIALOGUE WITH TRYPHO: But Christ-- if He has indeed been born, and...

Re: Further evidence that Ignatius faced old deniers of the historicity of Jesus

All due respect to DCH, I don't really care. I have already given evidence of Josephus using this language to describe Jewish holy books, and so have other scholars. So the point is over. Your only evidence is a mere mention of Josephus: Incorrect. I also gave several references to the New Testamen...

Re: Further evidence that Ignatius faced old deniers of the historicity of Jesus

what would be incomprehensible? My claim that only Marcion could have a such disregard for the Old Testament, by saying that Jesus is the new and only scripture ( "Solus Paulus "), and the rest (Jewish Scriptures) doesn't matter? I invite you to learn better about Marcion. As to the your ...

Re: Further evidence that Ignatius faced old deniers of the historicity of Jesus

In response to your last comment to me: No that is not what I said. It is always evident that you are grasping at straws when you don't bother representing what we say correctly and go on wild tangents.

And your second paragraph is incomprehensible.
