Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

It's been a while since I looked at that tradition. From memory the Homilies on Mark attributed to a Severus in the eighth century have a lengthy narrative tracing Mark back to a few of gospel narratives and say he was present at his mother's house. I think Pope Shenouda summarized the tradition som...

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

Irenaeus's identification of Luke as 'we' But that this Luke was inseparable from Paul, and his fellow-labourer in the Gospel, he himself clearly evinces, not as a matter of boasting, but as bound to do so by the truth itself. For he says that when Barnabas, and John who was called Mark, had parted ...

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

A number of witnesses, most notably the surviving Coptic tradition read Acts as if John-Mark = Mark the evangelist.

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

The question isn't whether some of the information in Acts dates back to the first century. It might well. I don't know. But Acts isn't what it claims to be.

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

Also studies of Acts like FF Bruce (hardly a radical revisionist) argues that there are many examples of the author changing his sources for instance in the transition between chapters 5 and 6.

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

It simply appears to me that you are looking pretty hard to discredit Acts. Why is it 'discrediting' Acts to say it like it is. 1. There was an original Hebrew text of Acts that no longer exists 2. The surviving text is layered (like most ancient texts) the layering likely occurring when the Hebrew...

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

Heresies existed long after 80AD
And the gospel was written after 70 CE so what's your point?

Re: Number 608: Chrest = Freedom ?

To be honest I don't even have a clue where he gets his ideas from. חרת is pronounced charat and means 'to dig' in Aramaic and to 'engrave' in Hebrew. WTF?

Re: Number 608: Chrest = Freedom ?

I found the original book. This person knows nothing about how words are pronounced or 'transliterated' from Hebrew to Greek. Complete nonsense.
