Re: Why was Thomas not labelled as Q?

The late-dating is the conservative / orthodox game: date as late as possible, label as Gnostic, and date the gospels as early as possible, and label as "historical". Re: SACT: Matthew wrote Luke to support his own story

Mary's role, about the first to see the resurrected Jesus, is just fiction. Jesus' resurrection is also fiction. Each gospel authors handled the bodily appearances of a resurrected Jesus differently, proving they did not work from a common tradition but rather their own thinking. Cordially, Bernard...

Re: SACT: Matthew wrote Luke to support his own story

The trouble with calling Jesus or Thomas Samaritan is the difficulty of reconstructing how that term would have applied in the 1st century You could see Samaria as a microcosm of the rest of Israel with it's own chief priests and similar sects and branches you could be on to something but the challe...

Re: Why was Thomas not labelled as Q?

That, I don't understand. Yes they didn't understand the parables, but how is Thomas reconstructing beliefs, and showing bias towards what? And why doesn't that mix with a 1st century existence All it is I'm open to the possibility that Thomas could reflect a certain theological 'camp' that was say...

Re: SACT: Matthew wrote Luke to support his own story

everyone wants to reign right? haha i think the reigning in a Jewish sense is what it meant, being crowned by God... not reigning through superior understanding I think that the former is strongly implied in Thomas but if you don't know where to look for it you might assume the latter, i guess as th...

Re: Why was Thomas not labelled as Q?

Assuming there is some primordial list of parables Does Thomas draw from this reliably? I'm "assuming" that Thomas is that primordial list of parables it's possible. even if someone was going to argue this given the likely chances of changes along the way you'd have to analyse each one individually...

Re: SACT: Matthew wrote Luke to support his own story

to davidmartin, That doesn't make sense when Paul is arguing against certain aspects of this "do not be quickly shaken from your composure or disturbed by a spirit, a message, or a letter thought to be from us, which says that the day of the Lord has already come " 2 Thessalonians is widely conside...

Re: Why was Thomas not labelled as Q?

You could reframe the question Assuming there is some primordial list of parables Does Thomas draw from this reliably? If the answer is yes then the theological concept of immanence advocated by Thomas reveals something about Q Q is said to contain apocalyptic prophecies that are not only absent in ...

Re: SACT: Matthew wrote Luke to support his own story

I think Bernard has a point about both Matthew and Luke drawing from Mark that could explain quite a bit I think it is interesting how both Matt and Luke have the birth narratives and yet they are quite different Anyone arguing that Luke influenced Matthew in this area could be onto something but th...
