Re: Was the birth story in Luke/Matthew originally referred to John the Baptist

i doubt that Giuseppe - is that hymn Jewish or Greek in style? I bet you Ignatius of Antioch that it's not Jewish. no.. that hymn is a Pauline church concoction i'm sure of it Interestingly there are 2 early writings that fail to mention the name Jesus (The Shepherd, and the Odes) The Pillars you me...

Re: Was the birth story in Luke/Matthew originally referred to John the Baptist

Maybe he does mention the problem... always Paul has to repeat again and again the name 'Jesus'. Maybe this is because there were other names in use by various others. This tendancy is muted in Paul, but by the time of say 1 John it's more in the open, there it clearly says some opponents say Jesus ...

Re: Was the birth story in Luke/Matthew originally referred to John the Baptist

But you could also say "Paul didn't like talking about John the baptist" I mean - for Paul Christ is very nearly a cosmic, spiritual being He didn't want to talk about Jesus's earthly life, at all. Not his life, his teachings, his story So he isn't going to mention others either, like John He was fo...

Re: Was the birth story in Luke/Matthew originally referred to John the Baptist

not going to find the answers in Paul Guiseppe i think Paul adopts a method of never naming his opponents or reveal any historical details that might help This is actually quite 'Gnostic' of him. Since when do Gnostic texts do this either?! With such a common name as 'John' and multiple John's on th...

Re: Nazarene Christianity

What does Torah observant even mean? If you follow the Torah then any prophet who comes along teaching abandoning the Torah should be expelled as a false prophet This makes Paul a false prophet beyond any doubt. The Jewish bible is very clear on this point There is no way that positing a conservativ...

Re: Did Irenaeus identify John with Jesus without knowing it?

IMO the mistake Guiseppe makes is to assume black and white, either some 'adorer of YHWH' or a sworn enemy of YHWH! I don't think this is a useful construct especially not in the 1st century Here's the example, say Theudas was a spiritual teacher, teaching about love and doing good peacefully Say he...

and Cerinthus, the likely author

Hard to see this revelation as 'Christian' in any sense

Re: Understanding the Christian Story

Is this an anti-Marcionite interpolation or is Acts reflecting what Paul wrote here? To me the latter would make more sense, since orthodox Christians rejected Jewish Christianity and Torah observance, and thus it's hard for me to accept that they would "Judaize" Christians writings to counter Marc...

Re: Why Must You Be Such A Angry Young Man/Mark1:41 Jesus Angry?

Hebrew original?
Compassion - חמלה
Anger - חֵמָה

Just drop a Lamed..

IMO a Hebrew original (I mean proto-whatever sources) is totally 100% logical
In Israel Aramaic was shunned for holy texts and Greek would be useless
Hebrew would give legitimacy to new writings

Re: Acts 15:20 and 29

I find it interesting that the Golden Rule stands apart syntactically from the other three rules, all three of which depend upon the infinitive ἀπέχεσθαι (while the Golden Rule does not). In verse 20, the infinitive construction even gives way (a bit awkwardly) to a second person imperative constru...
