More of the same

It is easily seen that the argument for a pre 70 CE Jesus cult is the very weakest argument. You've asserted this before. The Jesus story was fabricated after the Fall of the Jewish Temple c 70 CE and sometime after c 120 CE or after Suetonius "Twelve Lives of the Caesars". Pure assertion without a...

Re: Dating the Pentateuch

Does the mention of Assyrians in Manetho's account of Osarseph reflect an origin of the account back in Assyrian times? I wasn't aware there was a reference to Assyrians in Manetho. I remember only being interested in the material because of the mention of Osarseph and the circumstances at the time...

Re: evidence for Christianity before the third Roman Jewish

...Here's one thing I found that I did not expect to find, and it may be relevant: In the early Christian texts, up to and including Origen, we do not find Christus without Iesus , nor a whiff of Χριστός without Ἰησοῦς (the Odes of Solomon being the only known exception, as mentioned in the comment...

Re: Dating the Pentateuch

I couldn't find this thread for a while. It had migrated. This is what you said earlier: As to Gerizim, you must remember that the temple there was still seen as important to the Jews at the time of 2 Maccabees 6:1-2. (This was written before 1 Macc and is therefore not a Hasmonean tract.) The templ...

the code (CH, CT or CHT) http://www.freeratio.org/images/smilies/spins_favs/hysterical.gif I realize that this is another of mountainman's fishing expeditions to get information he can mangle enough to develop into his answer as to why christianity exists, but we have to take our amusement where we...

Re: evidence for Christianity before the third Roman Jewish

(It's part of why I honestly regret following spin's lead of trying to inject some logic here. It's futile to have a conversation with a wall.) Should I fall on my sword now, oh great and mighty kosmokrator? It was not my intention to inject any logic here, only to underline the lack of logic. I'm ...

Re: evidence for Christianity before the third Roman Jewish

It is extremely easy to deduce that the Jesus cult of Christians was initiated sometime in the 2nd century--after the writings of Philo, Josephus, Tacitus and Suetonius. Opening assertion. OK. We'll wait for this deduction. The very first point is that the Gospels in the Canon and the Pauline Corpu...

Re: Hadrian and the Christians

From Magen's 22 year archaeological work at Gerizim: Today we can state with certainty that the first phase of the temple on Mount Gerizim was erected in the middle of the fifth century BCE by Sanballat the Horonite, a contemporary of Ezra and Nehemiah, who lived more than one hundred years before ...

Re: Was Christianity started by born Jews?

Professor Cook writes in his book Modern Jews Engage: Christianity, still deeply bonded to Judaism, accepted and based itself on the Jewish scriptures...Replicating Judaism’s synagogue structure and its networking enabled Christianity to offer a cohesiveness that pagan religions (commonly organized...
