On the specific point of those who desire baptism but are delayed until they are older and/or better instructed and who die unbaptized, it would IIUC be generally held that they have received Baptism of Desire

Re: Hurtado embarrassed by the Kirk's thesis
I wonder if the best way to read not only Hurtado but Kirk, too, is to sift out the raw data, the source material they use, and to study those sources for ourselves with our own questions. Neither Kirk nor Hurtado is doing history. Both are doing theology. Their research is into a theological quest...

Re: Sinaiticus homoeoteleuton from source ms Claromontanus (
I hadn't read your article properly sorry. I thought you were saying that their is a shared omission by homoeoteleuton between Claromontanus and Sinaiticus. What you are actually saying is that although the two manuscripts do not share a omission by homoeoteleuton it would be easy for the omission ...

Re: Sinaiticus homoeoteleuton from source ms Claromontanus (
One possible problem with using omission by homoeoteleuton as evidence for a relation between manuscripts is that this sort of error is peculiarly likely to occur independently. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that a homoeoteleuton (or something that gives the appearance of an h.t) will occ...

Re: Sinaiticus homoeoteleuton from source ms Claromontanus (
There were two pages here, with especially superb questions and contributions from Athanasius. I actually saw them five minute ago, with a note that the thread was closed (that note is no longer here.) Would the moderators be so kind as to place those posts back online. Athanasius asked the best qu...

Re: Why was John named ''John''?
Are you sure about this association with Time? I have read that the word timeaus could mean honourable or unclean. If I remember well, Timeus is a work of Plato where he talks about the time. In Plato's Timaeus, Plato discusses the relation of time and eternity, as well as lots and lots of other th...

What are the oldest liturgies? Do we have anything from close to the 1st century? I heard of: Liturgy of Addai and Mari, and liturgies of: St. James, St. Mark, St. Hippolytus, and the Anaphora of the Twelve Apostles. many of these are late in their present form. The Liturgy of Addai and Mari probab...
