What is wrong with defining things according to what it is we want to find out: Ie.. Writings of dialogue and actions the author makes up from his imagination and knows that is the source vs Writings of dialogue and actions the author is reporting as having happened because he thinks they really did...

I refer you back to my story about the boy discovering the back yard sinkhole, goes inside and wakes up his parents and says "there's a sinkhole and we don't know what happened". While I"m sure there is some out there, I've never read a piece of fiction that reads like that. This acc...
