Noticeable influences of christianity in your society today
In which ways do you consider christianity influences society today, from the smallest influences to the biggest? As a small example, for various reasons it is the norm in modern scholarly works of ancient history and biblical studies to use BCE (before the common era) and CE (common era) rather tha...

Re: The Dating, Authorship, and Meaning of the Pauline Epist
The word θυσιαστηριον can be found in Jdg 2:2 for the altars of the inhabitants of the land. In Jdg 6:28, 30-32 it's an altar of Baal, also in 1 Kgs 16:32, 18:26, 2 Kgs 11:18. In 2 Kgs 21:5 it's an altar to all the powers of heaven. I noted in my reply to Jay that θυσιαστηριον is occasionally used ...

Re: Sub-form name change...?
But I was so fond of the anagram! ("General Religious Discussion") Pretty good... and I certainly didn't notice it. Maybe if you called it "General Religious Discussion" and use "or, for the perverse, General Soul-Sung Idiocies, Sir. Talk about religious issues here." ...

Re: evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistl

Re: evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistl
Is it true that Paulus is a previously unknown name ? Mea culpa. Please forgive me. I have found examples in Plutarch. Paul is not a previously unknown name. :tombstone: It appears in Plutarch as a Latin "gens" name; presumably as a regular name elsewhere, I am not sure. I made the mistak...

Sub-form name change...?
I realize this is a benevolent dictatorship and the power that be has decided on the name of this forum, but if I grovel for a few moments can I appeal to the power that be for a more intellectually neutral forum name? "General Soul-Sung Idiocies, Sir" is not going to get a lot of likes on...

Re: The Dating, Authorship, and Meaning of the Pauline Epist
Although θυσιαστηριον is sometimes used in the Septuagint for non-Yahweh worship particularly altars to Baal. Altars for false worship are much more usually referred to as βωμός (high place). In the NT θυσιαστηριον always refers to an altar to the true God. This is a terrible argument from silence....

Re: Manuscript evidence
I don't really understand why they have to keep changing it. Everyone seems so happy with the first dating. Why can't they just leave it alone?
