Re: Of Nazirites & Naṣoraeans.

Ben, what makes people think that Pliny was using Marcus Agrippa (1st century BC) as his source? In an essay, "The Location of Tarichaea," a city in Galilee destroyed in 66 AD, which Pliny described, Nikos Kokkinos writes that Pliny was using the governor of Syria in the mid-late 1st centu...

Re: The heirs of Paul...

You sound like a needle stuck in a record. The (unforged) letters of Paul were brought to the church of rome in 145. Look on google. Irenaeus took the gospel of John, which says that Jesus is almost 50. Pilatus is there too, so it only means that he was born 20 BC. Fyi, Irenaeus doesn't mean Jesus ...

Re: The Evidence of the Pauline Epistles

Paul's miracles show up in Acts. Yes, Acts of the Apostles have a few things. But outside that, no visions of Jesus are recorded AFAIK. If there was "an age of revelations" where the Risen Jesus is popping up to teach the early church, it didn't make it into the extant texts. I would have...

Re: Decoding Mark revealed Secret Mark

You know I have VERY LITTLE interest discussing what your impressions are of things you haven't spent much time researching. If I could, I'd like to discuss self-knowledge. I have lived a long time. I think I am fairly strong willed. I have no idea where it comes from. My mother is the obvious answ...

Re: Of Nazirites & Naṣoraeans.

I am answering you here, Ben, from another thread because it's more relevant here. But I still need to read this thread. It is true that, if Pliny were drawing from a Christian source, he might have used a zee . So was he? What Christian source might have told him about a Tetrarchy named after Jewis...

It's better for me to reply to you on your other thread, Ben, which I admit I haven't read yet.

Re: Decoding Mark revealed Secret Mark

Absence of Provenance and Authentication is also a sign (but not proof) of forgery. What absence? We know where the book was found. We know that the monks wouldn't allow Quesnell to take the manuscript to be examined at the police station. He couldn't just walk out the door with the manuscript. Why...

Re: Buried clues about early Christianity from the context of Pliny’s letters?

I confessedly do not have a brilliant take on what Pliny is talking about exactly when he mentions the Nazerini, but I am pretty sure he is not talking about the so called Nazarenes. The connection to the modern Nuṣairi, or Alawites, is tenuous at best, as Muslim scholarship seems well aware. And P...

Re: Buried clues about early Christianity from the context of Pliny’s letters?

When I see "Pliny" and "early Christian" used together in a sentence, I think of Pliny the Elder's Natural History encyclopedia from the 70's AD where he talks about the Nazarine community: Coele Syria has the town of Apamea, divided by the river Marsyas from the Tetrarchy of the...
