Re: What were the beliefs of Early Ebionaen Christianity?

but the spirit does also let people prophecy and let God speak through them (in the first person) i take the 'I am' statements in John to be the Holy Spirit speaking through a prophet cause we have so many examples of that but does this confer divinity? hmm, you have a point! it sort of does if some...

Re: What were the beliefs of Early Ebionaen Christianity?

Gakusi, Jesus in John acts just like a prophet, one on whom the spirit came (and Jesus seems to hammer this point home all the time) i wonder if some of the divinisation of Jesus is importing the spirit's divinity onto him more literally after all, 'the Word' in John's prologue in Syriac is feminine...

Re: So, did Marcion just make everything?

The epistles are the work of a successful early church theologian whoever that may be But one who looks like they are innovating away from his predecessors who disagree with him Once it is realised this theologian lived at least 40 long years after the supposed time of Paul, the opponents in the epi...

Re: So, did Marcion just make everything?

And follow-up question - everything I can see suggests that all the early Church Fathers were vehemently anti-Marcion. If that's the case, then how did the epistles that originated with him (whether he authored them or not) and any other potential works/revisions/redactions of his end up making it ...

Re: Is the secrecy in Mark about the identity of the father of Jesus?

the secrecy could also be that a lot of Marcionites think Jesus is not the messiah, in the 2nd century they think , what? no, we never heard this from Marcion. Mark finds a way as he redacts the ev. He was, he says, but hardly anyone knew certainly no-one in Judea.. the Marcionites love it. So long ...

Re: Volkmar now available in English!

One can not ignore the fact that Paul, in his epistles, is very sensitive to the fact that he was not among Jesus' original disciples. And therefore Paul is very defensive about that, claiming he gets his authority directly from the Lord instead of from the Jerusalem church. If Paul's epistles were...

Re: So, did Marcion just make everything?

i'm not going so far as that Ebion, simply that there were earlier gospel sources pre-dating the epistles that is already radical enough and just a starting point for a bunch of possibilities once the epistles are correctly dated as 'early but late' and the idea of an atonement for sin was absolutel...

Re: Volkmar now available in English!

The reason Paul knows little about "Jesus after the flesh" is because Paul only wants to know (gnosis) Jesus crucified and speaking to him in personal revelation heh, that's exactly why I argue it make sense the gospels pre-date the epistles. The epistles announce clearly they intend to '...

Re: So, did Marcion just make everything?

(b) Paul wrote pre-65, between seven and nine known letters. Do you have any evidence for that , or is it just your opinion ? There isn't any! Paul looks later than this because you have to argue for a 'disappearing' Paul otherwise if he wrote in the 60's, why don't other early texts know him? the ...

Re: Volkmar now available in English!

ah we do differ greatly on the dating then i now kind of date the epistles to around 90 and from maybe a revolt against the Ebionite type movement at the time. and the reason they can omit a historical Jesus and his teaching is because of the destruction of most of the original movement along with a...
