Re: Everyone will be salted with fire.

Baarda just died this year. All my academic friends are dying off. Soon I will only have soccer dads and moms as my circle of friends. If I talk about a pericope from Mark with my new friends they will think that I am talking about one of the other parents from the team broadcasting highlights from ...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

My teacher argued Chrestos is a translation of the title/figure Shilo in the Genesis prophesy i.e. the one like Moses. I will post the proof shortly. I think it is the best explanation.

Re: Everyone will be salted with fire.

People should read Baarda's explanation (which won't be much loved here because it advocates both (i) an Aramaic source text and (ii) an early lost gospel behind the synoptics). But it is the best explanation of the passage. No doubt about it. The passage is certainly a Greek translation of an Arama...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

I can't get over how similar Wisdom 2 and Isaiah 3:10 are in the LXX and how incomprehensible the LXX is when compared with the original Hebrew of Isaiah. If Wisdom is citing Isaiah LXX then obviously Isaiah LXX is earlier than the present translation of Isaiah. The name 'LXX' is a misnomer of cours...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

I am looking at the vastly different narrative in Isaiah 3 in the Hebrew and the Greek and have come to some surprising conclusions. Isaiah 3:10 אמרו צדיק כי־טוב tell the innocent how fortunate they are εἰπόντες Δήσωµεν τὸν δίκαιον, ὅτι δύσχρηστος ἡµῖν ἐστι· saying, “Let us bind the just, for he is ...

Re: Chrestos in the Jewish Scriptures

Cyril Catech 13:12 12. They bound Jesus, and brought Him into the hall of the High-priest. And would you learn and know that this also is written? Esaias says, Woe unto their soul, for they have taken evil counsel against themselves, saying, Let us bind the Just, for He is troublesome to us. And tru...

And that christos and chrestos were essentially interchangeable see Syncellus https://books.google.com/books?id=0wILAwAAQBAJ&pg=PA640&lpg=PA640&dq=%CE%B4%E1%BD%BB%CF%83%CF%87%CF%81%CE%B7%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%82&source=bl&ots=5xT9H70VA8&sig=tY_6c1uZyR4-lewFWRQFpiPPjfE&hl=e...
