So what really happened at that so-called “first Christmas”?

I stumbled upon this article about how wrong people are in their beliefs regarding the birth of Jesus. And after reading it I can`t get the article out my mind. A biblical scholar has written it, and sources other scholars to support it, so I feel like the obvious fool here. Do I actually understand...

Re: zoom conf. "Next Quest for the Historical Jesus"

https://www.culturematters.org.uk/index.php/culture/religion/item/3372-class-struggle-in-the-new-testament. Given that most people in antiquity left no sign at all of their existence, and the poor are virtually invisible within the historical record, to deny the existence of non-elite figures such ...

Re: zoom conf. "Next Quest for the Historical Jesus"

Yea. My interest is purely a hobby. I simply love all ancient literature. This is a site I use for sources, and to enjoy some interesting discussions from time to time. Sometimes just to have a laugh reading discussions between smart men on silly subjects, and how they devolve into a literal 4chan t...

I don't think you're disputing it is or looks "contrived" either - show-ritual is contrivance. Not disputing it could be, or looks "contrived". Especially when cameras are involved. In my experience the emotional part is authentic to those who are religious and actual believers....

(*He chokes up repeatedly, which I sense is somewhat contrived and 'plays on emotion' - that's the most cynical thing I'd say, here.) Naahhh.. Not cynical, but ritualistic. My extended family is Lutheran baptist missionary something something... Often called "Bedehus" people where I live....

Re: Share your thoughts as to why Marcion went to Rome

In all seriousness though, what sort of an answer are you looking for? Rome was the the capital of the Roman empire and the conceptual center of the known world. The Acts of the Apostles is sometimes described as a story of how the Holy Spirit moved from Jerusalem to Rome. It's sort of hard to imag...

Re: Where Does the Christos Myth come from?

Is there such a thing as A Christos myth? I mean, the Marduk/Cyrus stories was just modified and placed in the OT. Cyrus prophesied as future King by the current rulers Magi. Ordered to be killed, escape, and return to take his place as King. Was so familiar "origin myth", that it was used...

Did Farrer or Goodacre address the problem of the differences of material not in gMark and not in the double tradition? for example Michael Goulder in "Luke: A New Paradigm" via vridar "How and Why Luke Changed Matthew’s Nativity of Jesus Story" I read the article, and was surpr...

I do not see where Eusebius is different from other writers of history. At least he was honest about it.
