Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
Given that there is no evidence of the Similitudes found at Qumran and Milik's evidence concerning Roman wars with the Parthians, would you agree with his assessment [The Books of Enoch: Aramaic Fragments form Cave 4, Oxford, 1976, 95-96] that they reflect a third century context? That there were n...

Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
... If the standard 1st century dating of most books of the NT as well as certain OT Pseudepigrapha is accurate ... If not, then Matthew's interpretation of Micah 5:2 would not be 1st century; nor would it be "1st century messianic". Agreed. But then working from assumptions about dates t...

Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
The myth of messianic expectations at the time of the early first century .... I think one area worth considering in this connection is the level of doctrinal continuity between Pharisaeism and Rabbinic Judaism. The latter of course traces its own pedigree through the Pharisees. It is therefore ent...

Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
What evidence is there that Bar Kochba was a 'self-proposed' messianic figure ? The Babylonian Talmud (Sanhedrin 93b) provides late/problematic evidence: Bar Koziba ruled two-and-a-half years. He said to the rabbis: "I am the Messiah." The claim is reiterated by still later Jewish authors...

Re: Three days and three nights (for Bernard).
There's a passage in Pseudo-Philo's Biblical Antiquities (11:3-4) that equates "after three days" with "on the third day": [Moses said to Israel]: "Be prepared on the third day , because after three days God will establish his covenant with you." And the people were con...

Re: Psalm 22:17, Hebrew Text, "Like A Lion". Who's Lion?
What this means is that even if the offending letter was intended to be a Vav , we have a reasonable explanation for why that Vav was a scribal error for a Yod original. In a time period when Vavs were slightly longer some exemplars had identical size Yods and Vavs. I think I tend to agree. The pre...

Re: Zechariah 12:9-14
Religious books are full of ambiguous passages written in dead languages which were spoken by dead cultures .These passages admit to several interpretations. Zechariah 12:10 is one of those passages: the 12th Chapter in the Book of Zechariah is about a war. This verse may be interpreted as alluding...

Re: Psalm 22:17, Hebrew Text, "Like A Lion". Who's Lion?
I guess you could try to measure exactly based on the original fragment to try and get averages for final Yods, final Yods with no competing preceding letter and Vavs and also deviation statistics. It will still be inexact though due to fading, bending and the scribe's own variation. Another point ...
