Re: The start of the Jesus story

You very well know that it is claimed Saul/Paul was in Rome around c 62 CE in Acts of the Apostle--not Jerusalem. Right, but Acts doesn't say what happened to Saul/Paul after c. 62 CE, and the Saul in Josephus was in Jerusalem when Albinus was procurator, and he ruled from 62 CE to 64 CE. And since...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

I don't know if the Saul in Josephus persecuted Christians at that time (though I wouldn't rule it out given Paul's hostility towards some of them, e.g., "When Cephas came to Antioch, however, I opposed him to his face"), but it shows that he and Paul share a pattern of violence towards &...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

I do think Acts was written c. 95 CE and I think its author(s) used Josephus, but it makes more sense to me to suppose that Josephus' account of Saul resembles what the NT says because he is the historical Paul. The accounts of the character called Saul in Josephus do not resemble those in Acts at ...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

The writings attributed to Josephus do not mention the apostle Paul so you have no historical evidence to date the apostle Paul before c 70 CE. Josephus does mention someone named Saul who I think resembles Paul. Both are said to have lived during the same time and were related to the Herodians (&q...

Re: 1 Thess 2:14-15 : "the Jews who killed the Lord Jesus"

The claim that 1 Thessalonians 2:14-15 is an interpolation is flawed. It is seen that virtually every Christian writer, even those who make no mention of the so-called Pauline Epistle, claim that the Jews killed their Lord Jesus Christ and it was for that reason the Temple was destroyed and the fall...

Re: Some Observations on the Nomina Sacra of the First Three Centuries

Yeah, it occurs to me also that if one wanted to keep the name of the Christ secret from outsiders one just need simply omit it from the texts. Such a suggestion is really implausible since Jesus himself supposedly preached the Gospel publicly and later the apostles also preached the story of Jesus...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

The so-called Paul has admitted he was not the first to preach the faith. Faith is not all of what Paul's preached according to his epistles. You are implying that the so-called Paul is a liar. The supposed Pauline writer claimed he is now preaching the faith that he once destroyed so he could not ...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

The gospel of Jesus in Mark has little to do with the one preached by Paul. In the so-called Pauline Epistles the writer claimed he was presently preaching the same faith that he once destroyed. Galatians 1:23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the fait...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

1. NT Jesus first preached the Gospel. What gospel? Certainly not the gospel of the early Christian preachers. According to Christian NT writings Jesus came into Galilee preaching the Gospel after John was imprisoned and before he even had hand-picked his twelve apostles. NT Jesus was the very firs...

Re: The start of the Jesus story

I have not claimed the post-resurrection stories are historical accounts. I am dealing specifically with the chronology of NT writings. gLuke, Acts of the Apostles, and the Pauline Epistles post-resurrection stories are later than those in gMark, gMatthew and gJohn. The authors of gMark, gMatthew a...
