Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?

Probably because Dr. Price would handle an exchange professionally with mutual respect. I can't tell you how many times Price has recommend such and such author even when he diagrees with their conclusions on his Bible Geek podcasts. So, unlike Ehrman, he wouldn't start a book by comparing people w...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?

To answer the question in the opening post, I do now have the book.

I have seen smaller telephone directories.

It seems better written than Carrier's blog posts.

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?

Perhaps a reference class for Jesus of , say, Judas,Thomas, Mary Magdalene,Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus, Lazarus, Bartimaeus, Jairus, Simon of Cyrene, Barabbas, Joanna, Salome etc etc - people who exist in the Gospels but appear to have no documentation outside of 4 unprovenance, anonymous works ...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?

. [*] I'm not convinced in the slightest by Carrier's treatment of the Rank-Raglan hero class, by which he derives prior probabilities for his Bayesean scheme, and I don't thing very many other people are going to be convinced on this matter either. I haven't been able to pin down a solid argument ...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?

STARK The fact of the matter is that 11Q13 quotes from Isaiah 52:7 to help paint a portrait of an eschatological angelic redeemer who would bring salvation and deliver Israel from its celestial enemies. CARR I guess this utterly refutes claims by Carrier that the early Christians thought of Jesus as...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?

Second, for Paul, at this stage of his preaching, the mystery was that Jesus was a lot more than a "humble" Jew. He was the Christ and the Lord of glory, the Wisdom and the Power of God. And the Romans did not know that. If they knew it, they would have avoided the execution: it is not go...

Re: Two new articles by our pal Tim O'Neill

That is a different matter. That Tacitus could have made use of information no longer available to us , such as the Acta Diurna, is a very reasonable assumption. What Tacitus may have learned and from where , that will remain forever unknown. Tim O'Neill is pretty certain that there were no contemp...

Re: Two new articles by our pal Tim O'Neill

Back to Tim O'Neill's piece. I also have a comment. His opening paragraph is surely condescending to his readers: This seems a good argument to many, since modern people tend to leave behind them a lot of evidence they existed (birth certificates, financial documents, school records, etc.) and prom...

Re: Two new articles by our pal Tim O'Neill

This appears to be based on Tertullian's Apology: Tertullian, The Apology: [/b] Tertullian, The Apology: [/b] Chapter 2. ... For the younger Pliny, when he was ruler of a province, having condemned some Christians to death, and driven some from their stedfastness, being still annoyed by their great...
