Re: gMark misled gLuke and gMatthew composers?

"....zero basis in historical reality...." ...may be less interesting for probatively assessing history. Descartes argued that we can achieve moral certainty on certain matters, such as the existence of God and the immortality of the soul. He evaluated the evidence for and against these b...

Re: gMark misled gLuke and gMatthew composers?

You can disagree all you want, but we're not talking about Alice in Wonderland here, where you can certainly prove that. Not sure though how you think it helps your case if you prove that Alice in Wonderland is allegorical fiction. So you agree that it is not inherently impossible to prove that any...

Re: gMark misled gLuke and gMatthew composers?

I disagree with that. To say that you cannot prove that a story is an allegorical fiction is not true. This can certainly be proven. I think we can definitively prove that Alice in Wonderland is allegorical fiction. It's not an opinion. You can disagree all you want, but we're not talking about Ali...

Re: gMark misled gLuke and gMatthew composers?

I have the feeling this discussion devolves into arguments about semantics. This also happened when the idea was "discussed" that the gospels (or specifically gMark) are something like a pesher or midrash on Old Testament stories (the cleansing of the Temple for example has a very good bas...

Re: gMark misled gLuke and gMatthew composers?

And the fact that the story is fictional comes not from interpretation, but from the fact that each and every scene in the story can be identified has having been developed from some literary source, most commonly from the Jewish scriptures. Which is, I may point out, your interpretation. Just beca...

Re: gMark misled gLuke and gMatthew composers?

My view at this point is that Mark was written as a fictional allegory in which the character of Jesus is based on Paul and the narrative is about how the Jews brought the events of the First Jewish-Roman War upon themselves in the same way that they brought the destruction of the First temple upon...

Re: After 20 Years Plus of Flogging His Theory How Many Here at the Forum Believe Mountainman?

This appears to address the evidence related to the provenance of the NTC rather than that related to the provenance of the NTA. Are you lumping the NTC and the NTA into one category of Christian literature, or something else? I can only repeat that this is irrelevant. My comment regarded the treat...

Leucius Charinus wrote: Tue Jul 25, 2023 5:38 am Only those who do not logically differentiate between the NTA (NT Apocryphal literature) and the NTC (NT canonical literature) and/or who don't understand that my primary theory now involves the former (NTA).
That point is irrelevant to what I said, which was about the treatment of evidence.

Re: After 20 Years Plus of Flogging His Theory How Many Here at the Forum Believe Mountainman?

In the field of history the primary evidence is generally regarded as king. Isn't the late Post-Nicene date of the surviving physical primary evidence of each of the hundreds of different texts of the NTA good reason enough? And we are back to square one of this thread, before the discussion of &qu...

Re: Does the writing of a gospel count as an anti-Roman action?

Isn't the use of the Danielic prophecy in Mark 13 sufficient to prove that the Roman rule, as the last material kingdom, had to be destroyed also just as the kingdoms that preceded it? Yes, at its core, the "good news" was that the destruction of the Roman Empire by the army of God was im...
