For Trypho, the crucifixion "remains to prove"
Trypho: This point has been proved to me forcibly, and by many arguments, my friend. It remains, then, to prove that He submitted to become man by the Virgin, according to the will of His Father; and to be crucified , and to die. Prove also clearly, that after this He rose again and ascended to hea...

Re: On the link between Capernaum and John the Baptist
Independently from me, Heracleon fixed it:
(Fragment 13, on John 2:13-16)
The ascent to Jerusalem signifies the ascent of the Lord from material realm things to the animate (psychic) place, which is an image of Jerusalem
(Fragment 13, on John 2:13-16)

Re: On the link between Capernaum and John the Baptist
Not only the descent to Sheol was misinterpreted as a mere descent to Capernaum, "city of Galilee", not only the baptim of Sheol was misenterpreted as an earthly baptism (when really it happened in Sheol and provoked the resurrection of Jesus after his Death in outer space), ...but also h...

Re: On the link between Capernaum and John the Baptist
1) What distinguishes the Gospels from each other is the relative claim of historical witness to a resurrected Jesus. GMark is at the extreme, no named historical witness to a resurrected Jesus. Subsequent Gospels used GMark as a base but wanted and claimed historical witness to a resurrected Jesus...

Re: Celsus claims that only SOME (τίνες) Christians believed that Christ was lived on earth
My explicative note of the passage reads: In the text "certain" (tinés) does not refer to a particular sect; all the Christians shared the view that the son of God had already come down to earth: Völker, 1928, p. 65; Nock, 1961, p. 585 = p. 933 (my translation and my bold) "All" ...

Re: Celsus claims that only SOME (τίνες) Christians believed that Christ was lived on earth
Christians who believed that Jesus was born just a man didn't believe he had descended from heaven as a pre-existing being. really? Are you really advancing the absurd idea that once the mere man (lived in the past) was exalted by God after his resurrection - as the ebionites believed that that mer...

Re: Celsus claims that only SOME (τίνες) Christians believed that Christ was lived on earth
Obviously , the ebionites (the kind of Christians you are alluding, i.e. believers that the Messiah Jesus was a mere man who will return as risen and exalted by God) have to be classified among the " certain Christians" who believe that: "there has already descended upon the earth a ...

Re: Celsus claims that only SOME (τίνες) Christians believed that Christ was lived on earth
I am saying that everything Celsus says in the name of these "certain Christians" ( one group) comprises one statement: "there has already descended upon the earth a certain god or son of a god who will make the inhabitants of the earth righteous." my simple point is that, insof...

Re: Celsus claims that only SOME (τίνες) Christians believed that Christ was lived on earth
By this same standard , as I pointed out, Celsus also implicitly conveys the information that Christians do not expect a future coming of the son of God (whereas Jews do). But this is probably not his actual experience, because he is treating the entire statement as a single entity. that hypothesis...
