Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
Again, no evidence anyone saw the "Letter" or the Voss book at Mar Saba before 1958.

Once again,
nobody has claimed to have seen the "Letter" before 1958.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
Neither Kallistos nor Seraphim--nor anyone else recorded--attested to seeing the "Letter" before 1958. I am aware of microfilming, including by Kenneth Clark of Duke. The Didache was a manuscript not in the back of a printed book. I've spent lots of time in libraries and cannot name a clos...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
Though it is less important than other evidence of the fake, it can be read as a normalization of his 1958 find claim. In effect: dear reader, this happens all the time, you know, three pages handwritten in the back of a book with an otherwise unknown text of an ancient. Not. Even at the Jerusalem l...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
Smith recommended checking "end pages and blank pages" and margins for handwritten texts--in 1960.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
Even if he did "go and look" and even if he found a different unspecified volume with 18th-c marginalia, that's no proof of the "Letter" or the Voss book. Read this before anyway; not news. Smith did recommend generally looking for marginalia.........after 1958. Not a trace of th...

I think you reported this conjecture, in whole or in part, before.
In recent decades, additional works of Augustine and of Origen have been discovered. Works recognized as genuine.
"Clement Letter"--not so much.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
One suggested that there may have been an earlier mention, but, as far as I know, he never found such, at Mar Saba nor Jerusalem nor anywhere in the whole world--nor has anyone else, since. The other just thought the book was Mar Saba property, which it was, in the sense of finders keepers, since 19...
