Re: Carrier and Crook debate

I agree, except for 1 Th 2:14-15 which I am rather certain was not written by Paul and should not be presented as historicist evidence. Also the main TF is all bunk and Tacitus' sources was likely not from official archives. Well, I lean towards 1 Thessalonians 2:14 as more likely an interpolation....

Re: Carrier and Crook debate

Hi toejam, I was not fairly analyzing your arguments, but satirizing the idea that many of Carrier's arguments are simply 50-50 propositions. In one sense every historical proposition can be either true or false, however, this does not give every or any historical proposition a 50-50 chance of bein...

Re: Carrier and Crook debate

^Sorry, but where did I say that Carrier had a really weak case based on prejudice and automatic denial of evidence? And where did I talk about surety?

Re: Carrier and Crook debate

That was a good debate. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for posting! I think Carrier's mythicist hypothesis is the best mythicist hypothesis out there... but I still don't think it stacks up as being more reasonable than the hypothesis that there was a historical figure. For me, Carrier's case is the...

^OK. Cool. I'll watch it then. I assumed it was just a fundy... those debates can be tedious.

Re: Carrier and Crook debate

Before I watch, can someone give me a heads up on Cook? Is he an evangelical? a liberal Christian? an agnostic? something else? I'll watch it if it's one of the latter. If he's just another fundy Christian, I'll pass.

Re: James Tabor Visited the Pantera Grave in Germany

While we're on this topic, I'd love to hear some opinions on Tabor... To me he seems to tred that fine line between writing 'historical fiction' and 'historical reconstruction'. Some of his views are quite radical and suspect, others are quite conservative. For me he too often draws 'conclusions' fr...
