Re: How late might the gospels be?

I wish I could recall the brave author who published the following and I will certainly update my comment when/if I recover their identity. A major factor in the dating of the gospels is the consideration of oral tradition being a key source for their narratives. The later the gospels the less credi...

Re: Is it honorable to force men or women to wear veils or any particular garment?

When in South-East Asia if I wish to visit certain temples I am dishonorably forced to wear a sash around my waist. Sometimes I am forced to remove my shoes. In New Guinea male children grow up being forced to wear penis sheaths. Anthropology is the study of the dishonorable. Humans are universally ...

Re: How do we know the ancient Romans didn’t destroy most of the evidence for Jesus?

They did. To think otherwise is silly When? In the mid-3rd century and early 4th century? Or are you thinking of something earlier? And who, exactly? Or should that be "whom"?? "Ancient Romans" covers an awful lot of people from all sorts of socio-economic and political strata e...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

If we presume that, for Paul, Jesus was raised in the distant past but only recently revealed to the apostles, we must take pains to account for this gap; why, for Paul, did Jesus die in order to end the law and justify humans but then wait indefinitely before making this justification available to...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

I deplore Carrier's use of "outer space" in this context. It is a grossly misleading anachronism. A more accurate term is "sub lunar realm" since that term is one to which the ancients themselves could relate. perhaps 'sub-lunar heavens' ?? We can get hung up pedantically on cer...

A quibble. I deplore Carrier's use of "outer space" in this context. It is a grossly misleading anachronism. A more accurate term is "sub lunar realm" since that term is one to which the ancients themselves could relate. Outer space suggests the open expanse above the earth's at...

Re: Are the archons in Rom 13 demons too?

Should we assume that Romans as we know it is what was originally penned by one claiming the authority of Paul? Winsome Munro in Authority in Paul and Peter: The Identification of a Pastoral Stratum in the Pauline Corpus and 1 Peter offers some arguments that Romans 13:1-7 was a later addition to th...

Re: The chiastic structure of Mark 3.31-35.

What is written about inclusios/chiasms in ancient literature discussing such "rhetoric", literary styles.... (e.g. by Aristotle)?
