I do like Ehrman saying that we know Jesus existed, because , look, a story of Jesus raising a child from the dead has got Aramaic words in it.
And Jesus spoke Aramaic.
Case closed, really.

Re: Can Richard Carrier be trusted to write the truth?
Now I could be wrong, Carriers new book may actually properly question the historical Jesus by using respected methods/criteria of historians. However, I suspect it is really just a book on how mythicists can win the day if they join together and follow Carrier as their leader to change the rules o...

Re: Can Richard Carrier be trusted to write the truth?
Nope. Carrier never makes that claim. I guess you've been told lies about Carrier.John T wrote:
I heard his strongest claim is that there is no historical evidence that the city of Nazareth existed at the time of Jesus therefore Jesus did not exist. Is that it?

"this Thread is based on evidence."...JoeWallck ******************** Alrighty then. Craig got one of his PhDs (philosophy) for his work on the Kalam Cosmological Argument. I'm sure that Joe Wallack will be more than happy to prove Craig a liar on that one...please proceed with the evidenc...

Re: Can Richard Carrier be trusted to write the truth?
I'm currently reading Bart D. Ehrman, "Did Jesus Exist?" a book that Carrier savagely attacked. In that book, Ehrman claims that Acharya drew a picture herself and that the statue did not exist. Was he telling the truth? In that book, Ehrman claims that Pliny talks about Christians in 'le...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
CORNELIUS TACITUS (55 - 120 A.D.) Said that, Tacitus was a 1st and 2nd century Roman historian who lived through the reigns of over half a dozen Roman emperors. Considered one of the greatest historians of ancient Rome, Tacitus verifies the Biblical account of Jesus' execution at the hands of Ponti...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
I distinctly remember the gauntlet thrown to Doherty by Jeffrey Gibson to show one document of antiquity in which demons did not act through human agency but in the abstract and in outer space as he proposed. Nothing was produced. Doesn't Jude talk about Michael disputing with the devil about the b...

^I'm not talking "knowledge", but most reasonable hypotheses. Whether they make your or my grades of "knowledge" is a different question. I wasn't making a "proposition", but an observation: That the Carrier-Doherty hypothesis requires Paul not to refer to Earthly rule...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
Probably because Dr. Price would handle an exchange professionally with mutual respect. I can't tell you how many times Price has recommend such and such author even when he diagrees with their conclusions on his Bible Geek podcasts. Would Price go on public radio to laugh at people for fabricating...
