Re: No ekklēsia in Mark?
maybe the gospels don't like the idea an organisation existed before it was supposed to although thats what it looks like in the gospels, they won't call it that

Re: A good argument to believe that the epistles were genuine
Giuseppe you could have the epistles emerge from a 'gnostic milieu' for sure what we see with Paul is he teaches only his own teachings he could have gone off in his own direction from almost any precursor and ended up completely disagreeing with them we don't really know what was prior to the mythi...

Re: The Epistle to Diognetus and the Marcionite Nexus: Twin Visions of God's Kindness
Of course, we recognize the words of the Epistle to Diognetus as echoing thoughts present already in the Gospel of John (John 1:18 - "no one has ever seen God but the one and only Son, who is himself God"), which can be considered another interesting link between the Marcionite nexus (whi...

Re: A good argument to believe that the epistles were genuine
The argument is not that the "none of the epistles have interpolation", but that the epistles for the most part precede both (1) Marcion and (2) the precursors of Marcion (i.e. Simonians and Cerdonites). 1 Yes 2 No the precursor of Marcion is probably whomever wrote the epistles can't pro...

Giuseppe you'll probably like what the Syriac/Aramaic of PLT means
plˀh, plˀtˀ (pelˀā, peleˀṯā) n.f. parable, allegory, problem, riddle
plˀt vb. to compare, said as a parable
that sneaky Pilate. but there was a real guy named this... then its not on purpose?

Re: Basic reason why the name of Pilate was absent in the Earliest Passion Story extrapolated from Mark
The Romans were there because they had to replace the spiritual "rulers of this age" of 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 I agree, this could be the root of it indeed - not that it has to depend on corinthians though... over in the odes they don't seem interested in naming those responsible which is in...

Re: Basic reason why the name of Pilate was absent in the Earliest Passion Story extrapolated from Mark
interesting i suppose it makes no difference to the details of the story if it was earlier or later say under later governers all the way up to Fadus or Tiberius Alexander (i mean same setup, same relationship and background to the Romans/Jews) , but how to explain this - in Luke Jesus is mocked and...

Re: Basic reason why the name of Pilate was absent in the Earliest Passion Story extrapolated from Mark
Pilate also serves a dating purpose though, otherwise how would we know when it all occurred? are there any other date markers apart from him? But this idea to exonerate the Romans that's only applicable after Christianity is distinct new religion, though. I mean, if it's a Pilate isn't his Sanhedri...

Re: Basic reason why the name of Pilate was absent in the Earliest Passion Story extrapolated from Mark
heh, scholars date most of the gnostic texts the after the date the gospels emerged guess what, they don't mention the earthly life of Jesus any more than do the epistles so by that logic the gospels have to post-date the the gnostic writings as well! or more likely, the epistles ignore historical t...

Re: Basic reason why the name of Pilate was absent in the Earliest Passion Story extrapolated from Mark
ah I see our difference, I believe John to be the gospel with the most traditional material and proto-John the earliest gospel whereas Mark draws from *ev which itself draws from proto-John. even the Odes incorporate scriptural references it seems not for the purpose of creating the narrative but as...
