Re: Short list of arguments that are going to persuade Giuseppe that Marcion precedes Mark
I meant you can give the Greek text, and how you translated it to English. Mahar btw is not the translator here, he used some early 20th century translation he found (I forgot which one, it's been some years since I last corresponded with him). Pretty seems to be mostly a very good translation from ...

Re: Short list of arguments that are going to persuade Giuseppe that Marcion precedes Mark
Peter, I should have continued with the next two lines. Pretty's translation, reads those following lines: Adamantius: Was Paul present at the crucifixion of Christ? Megethius: He himself plainly wrote then Gospel. Megethus is referring to Paul. It's even more clear than the line I stopped at. I hav...

Re: Short list of arguments that are going to persuade Giuseppe that Marcion precedes Mark
It's interesting how Mark begins by immediately quoting the prophets. If Mark follows after a Marcionite gospel that avoided (or voided) the prophets then that's Mark differentiating itself, laying out a gospel that Christians who accepted the prophets could believe in. If that's so there should be...

Re: Short list of arguments that are going to persuade Giuseppe that Marcion precedes Mark
Argument from the Parable of the Wineskins found in Mark: The Parable of the Wineskins is identical in Marcion and Mark: who wrote it before ? "Luke" (Catholic editor) sanitized it by adding "and both are preserved "; If "Luke" (Catholic editor) worked so, it was only ...

Re: Observations About Epiphanius's Citation of the Gospel Associated With Marcionism
So Matthew has the Antitheses. Tertullian cites Matthew 5.17 the most of any passage and almost always with the presumption that Marcion excised it. But 5.17 also makes its way to Epiphanius. 42 11 § 17 (p.125, l.18 - <) BP4 42 11 § 17 (p.148, l.23) BP4 42 11 § 17 (p.151, l.25 - <) BP4 42 12 § 3 (p...

Re: The Ultimate Question With Patristic Commentary on the Marcionite Canon
Stephen, You have really one down the rabbit hole, then from that created a false set of choices. Brilliant piece of "misinformation." Applause from the peanut gallery for that. Now to unravel and set things correct. First off, why are you going back to the fallacy of Western text = Marcio...

Re: Markan Marcion: A Contrarian Synopsis
Peter, A bit of a warning on Adamatius, parts 1 and 2 only contain Marcionite quotes when coming from the mouth of the Marcionte champions Megethius or Marcus. And even then, they are almost always quoting from the antithesis (usually pairs of sayings, one OT the other NT), which oft mere paraphrase...

Re: Klinghardt on ‘abolishing the Law & Prophets’
The Marcionite canon is kind of like gravity. Most people can see gravity at work when they drop something on the ground. But just because you can describe things falling to the ground it doesn't mean that you understand gravity. EXCEPT for religious scholars who like to pretend that WHATEVER WE DO...

Re: "the God and Christ" instead of "the Son of God" in Marcion's text of Gal 2:20
...Clabeaux rejected entirely a Marcionite origin for any of part 5, and I mostly concur. Clabeaux also pretty much demolished the notion of a Western text type, or any specific text type for that matter, being closely related to the Marcionite text. My own investigation into DA led me to the concl...
