Re: Early Writings Error

I asked my Rabbi his opinion about when he thought the final redaction of the Talmud was and he looked at me like I had two heads. Apparently the issue never comes up at Haredi Yeshivas. Mishnah - The Mishnah was redacted in 220 CE by Rabbi Yehudah haNasi when, according to the Talmud, the persecuti...

Re: The origin of the synagogue

semiopen I have tried to find an English translation of Targum Jonathan for Ezekiel 11:16, but failed to find one. Apparently Targum Jonathan translates Ez 11:16 as, "and I have become for them synagogues, second to My temple". Could you kindly advise? I hope I haven't tricked you into th...

Re: The origin of the synagogue

It took me several days to realize that Beowulf's Chabad reference was indeed just the quotation from Ezekiel. Ezekiel 11:16 is not exactly clear, not to mention the issues of who and when it was written. Chabad comments on Ezekiel http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/2053/jewish/The-Prophe...

Re: The origin of the synagogue

Sorry, you've taken my previous criticisms of Chabad with good humor. Personally, I've been quite pleased that my bold statement that everything on Chabad is a lie seems to hold with the examples you've provided; surely my sweeping statement must have some exceptions. I watch with amazement when nor...

Re: The origin of the synagogue

Despite my insistent claims that everything on Chabad is a lie, Beowulf continues to quote them. Re: how does yhwh save?

what i was saying was that i can't find any evidence in the torah where diety makes flesh for himself, gets it pinned to save from his own danger/wrath. christian saviour and jewish saviour are two different type of saviours which have nothing in common. You are comparing the religions from two dif...

Re: Interpretation of the flood account in Genesis

The Genesis flood is probably derived from Gilgamesh that originated at least 1000 to 2000 years earlier. One just has to consider the difference in dates to make the question of literality seem absurd. The Tower of Babel story is even more ludicrous than the flood; perhaps that wasn't taken literal...

Re: Interpretation of the flood account in Genesis

beowulf and semiopen1, I fail to see how your posts have anything to do with the question of whether the story of Noah's flood was interpreted as a description of an actual event or not. I fail to see what your vague reference to Icelandic priests has to do with any question. It seems to me that th...

Re: Interpretation of the flood account in Genesis

Exodus 19:8 is a good example of this And all the people answered together, and said: 'All that the LORD hath spoken we will do.' And Moses reported the words of the people unto the LORD. כֹּל אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר יְהוָה נַעֲשֶׂה - All that YHVH has spoken we will will do. The Noah exegesis is based on th...
