Psalm 22. Issue #1: Killing & Resurrection of the narrator
Based on my research, much of which I put on my site, let me share with you why I see the narrator of Psalm 22 as describing himself as being killed and resurrecting. The passage is headlined as "A Psalm of David". The Psalm is therefore attributed to David, and this could mean either it w...

Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
Suetonius the ancient pagan writer talks about 1st c messianic expectations among Jews in his Life of Vespasian, 4.5 : There had spread over all the Orient an old and established belief that it was fated at that time for men coming from Judea to rule the world. This prediction, referring to the empe...

Re: Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c.
Here are some writings predicting the millenia of his arrival: The world endures 6000 years: two thousand before the law, two thousand with the law and two thousand with the Messiah." (Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 96b-99a) "The world endures 6000 years and one thousand it shall be laid was...

Jewish prophecies of Messiah's arrival for circa 1st c. AD
.The First Century, however, especially the generation before the destruction [of the Second Temple] witnessed a remarkable outburst of Messianic emotionalism. This is to be attributed, as we shall see, not to an intensification of Roman persecution, but to the prevalent belief induced by the popul...

Islamic writings about the Messiah's death
Islam and the Quran call Jesus al Masih, the Messiah. Other places mention his death. Surah 19:33: "Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!" Another translation: “There was peace on me the day I was born, and will be the day I die, and on the...

Re: Messiah != Son of God
You were changing the topic as you have so frequently done. Main point on the OP topic is that the early writings see Messiah as divine son of God, with at least cryptic references to Jesus as God too. More narrowly on Rom 9 5 what you and I were discussing, I would love to see some scholarship say...

You're working to hard to blur things that Paul is so clear about: One god, the father, and one lord, Jesus. You have to be perverse to disagrer with Paul here. HI Spin. Considering the way the NT overlaps ideas of singular things like "I and the father are one", and the fact that Lord is...

... Paul thinks Jesus was God. Romans 9 says: "Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! The problems with your translation here of Romans 9:5 have been addressed in another contemporaneous thread --- I don't fee...

Re: Messiah != Son of God
to rakovsky, "yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things , and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things , and through whom we live." The phrase describing God is highlighted. "whom are all things" is not the same as "through wh...
