Re: Ehrman's Did Jesus Exist
Just wanted to say thanks for your OP. I haven't read the book yet so enjoyed reading your own summary/take on the various points.

Re: What makes a writing "Fiction" versus "History"?
What is wrong with defining things according to what it is we want to find out: Ie.. Writings of dialogue and actions the author makes up from his imagination and knows that is the source vs Writings of dialogue and actions the author is reporting as having happened because he thinks they really did...

Re: What makes a writing "Fiction" versus "History"?
Hi DC, I"m not seeing much connection between what I wrote and what you wrote. I was contrasting those who think they are writing about events of the past and those who know that they aren't. Ted The best that we can hope for is that they writers believed that what they passed on reflected the ...

Re: What makes a writing "Fiction" versus "History"?
The best that we can hope for is that they writers believed that what they passed on reflected the past I suspect that writers who are writing stuff they think reflects the past DO WRITE DIFFERENTLY than writers who are writing stuff that they KNOW does NOT reflect the past, but are trying to make ...

Re: Is this interesting?
I refer you back to my story about the boy discovering the back yard sinkhole, goes inside and wakes up his parents and says "there's a sinkhole and we don't know what happened". While I"m sure there is some out there, I've never read a piece of fiction that reads like that. This acc...

Re: Is this interesting?
On the other hand, if the perspective of the author is that the dialogue is crafted at all times based on a sympathy for the subjective state of the characters, then the concerns of the author are precisely about what the disciples would be thinking and feeling and what that woman, Mary, would be t...
