Re: The women watching at the crucifixion of Jesus in Mark 15:40-41

Do you mean Jesus being buried in a tomb or the finding of his tomb empty? Maybe the idea of Jesus being buried in a tomb predates Mark. I'm not sure that Paul specifies what kind of burial Jesus had. I think the story of people finding his tomb empty is likely created/made-up by the author of Mark...

Re: The women watching at the crucifixion of Jesus in Mark 15:40-41

nightshade the curious idea the tomb is a type of birth seems kind of logical especially going from the epistles interesting take! over in the odes they have no idea of that though cause there's not really a resurrection. instead here the cross sort of gets compared to the bond of marriage as found ...

Re: Do the 7 letters in Rev. line up with the Apostolicon?

I'm as big of an Anrew Lloyd Weber fan as anybody, :-) and there certainly have been apocryphal writings which--like fan fiction, have suggested more, but, if you stay within the four corners of the text of John's Gospel, there's nothing there which forces you to give any kind of erotic reading bet...

Re: Do the 7 letters in Rev. line up with the Apostolicon?

But I said Mary not some random person, this is his most key female disciple in the story. So there's always been an idea that Mary and Jesus are close in a romantic way which derives from mostly John's gospel. So interpreting it this way is doing no more than accepting that idea as a possibility - ...

Re: Do the 7 letters in Rev. line up with the Apostolicon?

But Jesus was pretty egalitarian with women. It it a case of Jesus going around flirting with women, or just Jesus just interacting with women just as he would with men? I don't much buy the flirting idea. He'd have to set an example but does appear to flirt with the woman at the well but if she's ...

Re: Writers who reference Paul's letters before Marcion?

doesn't there seem to be a good amount of taking Genesis literally though in the hypo, the naming of the animals and so on, it's almost like it's taking the text literally then applying a mythological meaning to it. Agreed what we know of Marcion isn't like this so is not clearly Marcionite. I guess...

Re: Writers who reference Paul's letters before Marcion?

heh yes studying Christian origins is the very definition of 'curve ball'. nothing makes sense and new information never helps it only adds to the confusion so here, is the author being ironic and laconically referring to the 'great apostle' who happened to get one thing right one time? in that case...

Re: Do the 7 letters in Rev. line up with the Apostolicon?

The contrast with the OT couldn't be greater. The OT is a very erotic set of texts. Marriage is encouraged, having lots of babies is encouraged, and people are getting in trouble all the time because of sexual desires. 180 degrees from the NT, where sex is all but unmentioned and all but absent as ...

I see Bacchus mentioned above and spirit possession
1 Samuel mentions that before prophets were called prophets they were called 'seers' and people would go to them, using the example there, to find out what happened to lost donkeys.
