Re: Thank you Stephan Huller

To bring it back to Judaism, there is one interesting question I often revert to. How many different stories am I actually reading? Or to be a bit more specific. Am I actually reading many different stories at all? Several. The problem is that each succeeding version of society has re-interpreted t...

Re: Mosaics Discovered in Turkey

http://eu.greekreporter.com/2014/11/11/mosaics-revealed-at-ancient-greek-city-of-zeugma-in-turkey/ I have to say that those mosaics are probably of the best quality that I have ever seen (admitting everything I have ever seen has been in the form of photos). They are truly pieces of art, not just a...

Re: Codex Sinaiticus - the white parchment Friderico-Augusta

Steven,

With all that you have said so far, what exactly is your point?

Are you saying codex Sinaiticus is a hoax and worthless for text critical purposes? What does that say about what codices or mss you *do* think have value.

I'll be honest, I have a hard time telling what your agenda is.

Re: Gospels as "euhemerized" stories about Jesus?

My objection to this discussion of euhemerism is that Euhemerus suggested , in a fictitious story, that certain gods commonly worshipped were in fact mortal men who benefited mankind, and in turn came to be revered as gods. Edit: His purpose had been to justify the apotheosis of Cassander, king of M...

Re: Archaeological Evidence of pre-Constantinian Christianit

It looks as though the earliest (though I may have missed something) is an inscription from the Catacombs of Lucina/Commodilla, near San Paolo fuori le Mura. It is the epitaph of a youth, Eutychius, who died in his 19th year. There are two loaves and two fishes carved below the epitaph. I am not qu...

Re: Archaeological Evidence of pre-Constantinian Christianit

You guys are a scream! I think "kare bale" is a corruption of the more classical "care, vale" i.e. "dear one, farewell." The letter beta in Greek came to be pronounced as "v" in the imperial period, as it is today in Modern Greek, and it looks as though the s...

Re: Did Jesus Die in Outer Space?

Perhaps Carrier meant the offerings were presented in the celestial temple? It does seem that Carrier is mixing up where the sacrifice was made and where the sacrificial offerings were presented . On earth, the sacrifices were made outside the temple and then the blood offerings carried into it; th...
