Re: The Results of Previous Studies of Marcion Are Worthless
What is so difficult to reconcile with the list is the fact that Paul is included as both a bishop and apostle ("For the bishops at Rome were, first, Peter and Paul the apostles themselves and also bishops"). If this is true, AND Peter and Paul die at the same time, it is difficult to see...

Re: Probability about Jesus (Christ) existence on earth
to MrMacSon, 13 out of 4 places means they can't be independent. Why not? The texts were primarily selected for their theological themes. This selection process would have involved selecting features, aspects, and themes that those people doing the selection would have wanted to confirm. Those 4 pl...

Being from those sources doesn't mean verified. Jesus genealogy varies between Luke & the other gospel (Mark?)

Kind of, Bernard.Bernard Muller wrote:

The information in many of those premises are aligned to each other (they come from the same place). Yet most are unverified beyond biblical assertions.

Re: Probability about Jesus (Christ) existence on earth
Let's say there are 8 statements (as I indicated already) showing that Paul implied the past existence of an earthly human Jesus. Let's say that if these statements are independent, they have each a probability of 80% to be right (that's a simplification from my ratings). Bernard, they're not indep...

Re: Probability about Jesus (Christ) existence on earth
Let's say we give 50% probability that the following shows that Jesus called Christ existed as a man on earth: 1) Descendant of Abraham (Gal 3:16) 2) Descendant of Israelites (Ro 9:4-5) 3) Descendant of Jesse (Ro 15:12) 4) Descendant of David (Ro 1:3) 5) Having brothers by blood, one of them being ...

Re: Probability about Jesus (Christ) existence on earth
You do realise the gospels give various accounts of various mothers and various fathers to various James? None fully line up to be Jesus' sibling? Are you confusing James, the son of Mary & Joseph with James, the brother of John, whose father is Zebedee? There are also other James in the gospel...

Re: Probability about Jesus (Christ) existence on earth
The Bayes theorem is great when used properly, more so if each input can be exactly quantified. But in Carrier's use of this theorem, in most cases, he put his own opinions as inputs. Opinions or premises? And in order to populate the Mythicism side, Carrier very often put some ridiculous, ill-evid...
