Re: Did Morton salt Mar Saba?
Secret/Stephen H., somewhere you wrote that you felt like one of “the last of the Mohicans.” That Morton Smith’s “Clement” letter was not by Clement has been *argued in detail* by several scholars including Andrew Criddle, and several others before and after him, most recently by Geoffrey Smith at U...

Re: Is the denial of Peter Mythicist evidence ?
a) Giuseppe wrote, (above, Dec. 5), “Frankly, Stephen, I may recognize my error about the interpretation given above on the denial of Peter,…” Thank you, G.; that is helpful. b) G. referred to “facts” attested relative to Acts 25:19. When Festus was newly arrived in Judaea (in the year 59 or 60 or s...

Re: Is the denial of Peter Mythicist evidence ?
Giuseppe, you called a verse taken out of context “evidence” of your wish, but why have millions of readers, including commentators and translators, read it differently than you? G., as far as I know, no one is forcing you to join any religion, but to insist on such absurd arguments to prove a negat...

Re: Did Morton salt Mar Saba?
Nothing about Morton Smith’s personal sexual status is essential nor necessarily relevant in hypothesizing that, after he lost his faith, he chose to embarrass some Christians by inventing a text, and eventually to be discovered as very clever for fooling some scholars.

Re: Is the denial of Peter Mythicist evidence ?
I don’t think that Acts verse proves what you wish. But good day.

Re: Is the denial of Peter Mythicist evidence ?
Only if those words are taken out of context could you imagine such a thing. My broader suggestion is that you may be deluding yourself, and maybe wasting time.

Re: Is the denial of Peter Mythicist evidence ?
Is to deny that “one of them” ordinarily means a human by claiming it is an “invention”—for no other given reason than that it contradicts your presupposition—circular “reasoning”?

Re: Did Morton salt Mar Saba?
Though I do not have a copy at hand, Shaye Cohen’s 1979 book (based on his 1975 dissertation), Josephus in Galilee and Rome: His Vita and His Development as a Historian, as I recall from reading in the 1980s, does not deny that Josephus wrote Antiquities, but as the title suggests (his development f...
