Re: A NEW APPROACH TO AN OLD PROBLEM
yes, and as Mary points out it was likely the Herodian/establishment Jews, but our texts usually just say 'the Jews' and we have to read between the lines.

Re: A NEW APPROACH TO AN OLD PROBLEM

Re: A NEW APPROACH TO AN OLD PROBLEM
Conclusion As has been stated at the beginning of this paper, at least one of the following three propositions must be false: 1. Jesus died ca. 29–33 CE. 2. John the Baptist died ca. 35–36 CE. 3. John the Baptist died earlier than Jesus. Sine Jesus being crucified under Pilate makes it into early c...

Re: Carrier on "gnosticism"
What I fear is that the rejection of gnosticism as category may imply also the rejection of an useful feature of it that was at the origin of the euhemerization of Jesus: hostility against YHWH. That's a category invented by you. Try reading Margaret Barker's The Great Angel , you'll find the sourc...

Re: What was "the church of God"?
I get the impression that all the apostles believed that Jesus "died for our sins" in 1 Cor. 15:3-11: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures , that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day accordin...
