Re: NT, OT, LXX and MT: Chester Beatty Jeremiah

Jeremiah "prophecies", I just plucked some from the web (https://www.agapebiblestudy.com/charts/Jeremiah's%20Messianic%20Prophecies.htm) The Church in the Messianic Age Jer 3:14-17 Mt 16:18-19; Acts 2:1-12 The death of Christ, the lamb of sacrifice, and the Eucharist Jer 11:19 Jn 1:29, 36;...

The try-out with the LXX to introduce IS OR IHS: Chester Beatty Biblical Papyrus V (TM 61934 / LDAB 3091 / Rahlfs 963)

The Christians were puzzled about the Coptic IS/IHS and XS/XRS, and tried to put those to use - as an experiment. The first verse that attests to this is Numbers 26:65, the plate to which is XV, which is found on page 27 of the PDF https://chesterbeatty.ie/assets/uploads/2018/11/Biblical-Papyri-Desc...

Re: The Opening of the Marcionite Text in Plain Sight?

LOL. I never had noticed this piece of Luke really, and thought that the bit about the word of John was fairly unique. Well, learned something new!

Interesting though that it doesn't say LOGOS, but just the boring word for word - both in Greek and Coptic

NT agrees with LXX against MT: Chester Beatty Isaiah - and it is obscene, really

This is where the OP took its material from: Let's tick off those boxes with https://chesterbeatty.ie/assets/uploads/2018/11/Biblical-Papyri-Descriptions-and-Texts-of-Twelve-Manuscripts-on-Papyrus-of-The-Greek-Bible-VI-Opt.pdf in hand: Acts 13:34 The blessings of David Isaiah 55:3 Hebrews 2:13 The c...

Re: NT, OT, LXX and MT: Chester Beatty Isaiah

Well, turns out that the OT is just the MT, basically - and the Septuagint indeed very different from both. How does that work for Christians though when they look up an NT verse in the OT and find out that it says something completely different? Assuming that they do that, of course, which is prett...

Re: NT, OT, LXX and MT: Chester Beatty Isaiah

Masoretic Text - which is an anachronism in this case but I simply have no idea what name to use other than Tanakh, which neither is helpful. Hebrew Bible is no option, etc

Re: The "Christian" Big Bang

... what ... is the main argument for wielding the date that you do? Internal dating of the FF by and of the FF, I presume ... We mainly go on tradition, afaik, though I think some of the 3rd century non-Christian texts such as those of Plotinus and Porphyry give witness to Christianity then, ie. i...

Re: The "Christian" Big Bang

There's a theory that the Johannine epistles preceded the 'Gospel-attributed-to-John', so, if that's the case, a Johannine community may well have preceded the writing of all the canonical gospels. Yes, but there is also a theory that the Johannine epistles were written by people trying to imitate ...

NT, OT, LXX and MT: Chester Beatty Isaiah

Scout's honour, I don't know yet - but you know my theory, and I like a challenge / risk. So here are the isaiah quotes I could find, ordered by Isaiah: Romans 9:29 As Sodom and Gomorrah Isaiah 1:9 John 12:39 Closed eyes and ears Isaiah 6:10 Matthew 13:14 Closed eyes and ears Isaiah 6:9 Mark 4:12 Cl...

Re: The "Christian" Big Bang

And perhaps we should see everything in the light of the early centuries, where writing a text perhaps even outweighed building a house. What did it cost, who would do it, when, where, how often? Was it even possible for a scribe to alter more than a word or so? I don't think so, I think it was an e...
