Re: More Talmud Business with Jesus

Hi Kris, are you familiar with Come And Hear? It gives translations of the Babylonian Talmud:

Unfortunately, I don't know of online texts from the Midrashim. I was forced to go to the library and look at Jacob Neusner's translations.

New edition of Porphyry "Against the Christians"

Bryn Mawr Classical Review just listed this book as up for review. Is anyone a qualified reviewer? If so you may want to propose to BMCR that you review this volume, which they'll send to you. Re: Christian Monasticism started in Egypt +/- the East

A good overview of the beginning of the movement, and of its interactions with and influence on Christians outside of monasteries (to say nothing of "pagans"), is Peter Brown's The Body and Society. In his 2008 edition he adds a long introduction in which he states how his own views evolve...

Re: Talmud and Messianc Texts vs Christian Sites

Anyway, as we've debated before, Daniel seems a mess to me. chapter 9 says that seven weeks and sixty two weeks are decreed. After the sixty two weeks, the messiah will be cut off. So according to that, shouldn't the messiah have been killed in 63 A.D. or thereabouts?

Re: Talmud and Messianc Texts vs Christian Sites

I presume you have access to tractates of the Talmud. Just in case you need it, here's a good place for English translations of the Bavli:

Re: Talmud and Messianc Texts vs Christian Sites

Hi Kris. I don't know about all this, but I do know that the Midrash B'reshit Rabba is not part of the Talmud. The Midrashim are generally considered a bit older. They are commentaries on various parts of the Pentateuch, mostly. I also don't know what the Warsaw edition of that Midrash is. The Sonci...

Re: Luke's remains

From what is stated in the article, it appears that the tooth is actually 12 years outside the date range: "Radiocarbon dating of one of the teeth indicated that it belonged to someone who died between AD72 and 416BC. We knew that the evangelist, according to ancient sources, was born in Antio...
