Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

Charles, Thanks for the encouragement, but I think I'm going to drop the "three days" thing for now (at least as far as it being a tangent on this thread). I don't need it. I don't care if it is based on Daniel or not, it just seems (seemed?) to make sense given the "son of man" ...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

Alright, I need to think about all this some more. I'm going crazy again.

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

Ben,

I feel good enough about this interpretation now to bet you five dollars it's right, and I'll even send you my address so you can mail it to me. :)

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

Then Mark tells us that it is Preparation Day (hence the need to get Jesus off the cross). The women are watching when Jesus dies, and they are still watching when Joseph buries him. But Mark says that Jesus was handed over to Pilate and crucified early morning on Thursday (15:1, 25) and died that ...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

It's in Mk. 14:12: And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed , His disciples said to Him, "Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover? This is what I mean by the confusion of Passover (which is the evening before the first day ...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

You are adding in a day which Mark does not allow. How so? (I wouldn't mind seeing your timeline of Mk. 14-16 for comparison.) To me it appears to only be a matter of interpreting "it" in 15:42-46: It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, Jos...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

Let's take another look at Mark then. According to the 30 CE idea in the chart in the link above, Jesus had a Passover seder on Wednesday evening, the 14th of Nisan (when Passover begins, and bearing in mind the Passover/Feast of Unleavened Bread confusion I mentioned above). Here is the Mark 14, 15...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

I've been mulling over the "three days" issue and it is way more complicated than I had expected. I think I'm going crazy. And I'm inclined to just throw up my hands and say that "after three days" and "on the third day" are interchangeable idioms, like Ben suggests, bu...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?

iskander wrote: The 3 days in question do not seem important. Jesus claimed to be a messenger --- not a fortune teller. Ibn Ezra distinguishes between two kinds of prophets, those foretelling the future and those who are messengers conveying God’s commands (Gen 27:19). The latter are greater. They n...
