Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

I can't find Ben's thread, but if memory serves, one piece of evidence that Josephus had Daniel in mind (in addition to the timeline issue) is that he calls Daniel the greatest of the prophets (can't remember where offhand) and in Ant. 10.11.7 he says, "In the very same manner Daniel also wrote...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

I'm not a believer, and no one is stopping you from typing all you like about the idea that Josephus used the Shiloh prophecy.

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

Ben somewhere in the misty past made a better case that Josephus had Dan. 9 in mind, given that Josephus says the world ruler would arise "about that time." Good old Ben. Final word on everything. What's the point of finding new information like the name "VESPASIANUS" = Shilo wh...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

Regarding the Shiloh = Vespasian idea, in ARN 4.5, R. ben Zakkai applies the word addir (אַדִּיר) You can't tell the difference between what Josephus figured out about a living person who ACTUALLY RULED THE WORLD and took the scepter away from Judea and this shit? Ben somewhere in the misty past ma...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

Ken has given me so much to chew on I'm not sure what to think now. But one thing is for sure, I'm not giving up on Ant. 20.200. I think it fits what Hegesippus says about James well and Origen certainly had the impression that it was the Christian James, and the use of "Christ" seems fair...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

Regarding the Shiloh = Vespasian idea, in ARN 4.5, R. ben Zakkai applies the word addir (אַדִּיר) in Is. 10:34 to Vespasian. And like Josephus, he too was captured and then released when Vespasian become emperor. Our Scripture says that this Temple will be destroyed only by a king, as Scripture says...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

Do we live on different planets? Are you really telling me that the idea that 1. Christians preserved the manuscripts of Josephus 2. Christians liked Jesus 3. Christians were always looking for witnesses to Jesus's greatness 4. To make them like Josephus more they added references to Jesus What par...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

What gives you the impression that Paul was "the leading authority" in early Christianity? What gives most people the idea that standing in front of a moving car is hazardous? Was he a leading authority? Sure. But the leading authority? No, because that is contradicted by what Paul and Ac...

Re: Was Josephus a Christian?

The idea that in 80 CE a Jewish turncoat decided to advocate the divine sanctioning of the Flavian dynasty isn't hard to believe. The idea that this turncoat, while advocating for the Flavians, decided to openly contradict his widely read lauding of the divine sanctioning of the Flavian dynasty wit...
